Regular Season Game 7 - Away Game 4

National Radio: Westwood One Radio Sports
Radio: 98.5 THE SPORTS HUB

at

Heinz Field - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Heinz Field, (seating 65,000), is a stadium located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It primarily serves as the home to the Pittsburgh Steelers and University of Pittsburgh Panthers American football teams, members of the National Football League (NFL) and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) respectively. It hosted the 2011 NHL Winter Classic between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals on January 1st 2011. The stadium opened in 2001, after the controlled implosion of the teams' previous stadium, Three Rivers Stadium. The stadium is named for locally based H. J. Heinz Company, which purchased the naming rights in 2001.

Funded in conjunction with PNC Park and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, the US$281 million stadium stands along the Ohio River, on the Northside of Pittsburgh in the North Shore neighborhood. The stadium was designed with the city of Pittsburgh's history of steel production in mind, which led to the inclusion of 12,000 tons of steel into the design.[7] Ground for the stadium was broken in June 1999 and the first football game was hosted in September 2001. The stadium's natural grass surface has been criticized throughout its history, but Steelers ownership has kept the grass after lobbying from players and coaches. Attendance for the 65,050 seat stadium has sold out for every Steelers home game, a streak which dates back to 1972 (a year before local telecasts of home games were permitted in the NFL).

RECORD SETTING PACE

Six games into the season, a number of Patriots players are on pace for record-breaking seasons. While we know these won't be realistic projections, it is fun to look at what the numbers would be if they continued at this pace:

TOM BRADY

* Tom Brady (2,163) is on pace to throw for 5,768 yards. Only two NFL players have thrown for 5,000 or more yards in a season with Dan Marino's NFL record 5,084 in 1984 and Drew Brees' 5,069 in 2008.

* Brady has 16 touchdowns, putting him on pace for 43 touchdown passes, which would be his second season with 40 or more touchdowns. He had an NFL-record 50 touchdowns in 2007. If Brady reaches 40 touchdowns, he will be just the second NFL player to have two seasons with 40 or more touchdowns. Dan Marino had 48 touchdowns in 1984 and 44 in 1986.

* Brady currently has an NFL record of 31 straight wins as a starter in the regular season at home. The last time the Patriots lost a regular season home game in which Brady started was on Nov. 12, 2006 against the New York Jets.

* Brady has a current streak of 22 straight games with at least one touchdown pass, a Patriots team record. Brady has 116 wins as a starter and needs one more win to tie Joe Montana (117) for 7th all-time.

JULIAN EDELMAN

* Julian Edelman has the highest punt return average in Patriots history with a 13.6-yard average (36-489).

BENJARVUS GREEN-ELLIS

* BenJarvus Green-Ellis has 18 touchdown runs since the beginning of the 2010 season, tied for the third most in the NFL with Michael Turner, behind Adrian Peterson (20) and Arian Foster (19).

ROB GRONKOWSKI

* Rob Gronkowski has five touchdowns so far in 2011, putting him on pace for 13 for the year. The NFL record for most touchdowns in a season by a tight end is 13 by Vernon Davis (SF) in 2009 and Antonio Gates (SD) in 2004. Gronkowski last season set the franchise record for touchdowns by a rookie tight end with 10.

* Gronkowski has 15 touchdown catches in 22 career NFL games. His 15 touchdowns since 2010 are the most in the NFL by a tight end.

WES WELKER

* Wes Welker has 51 receptions through six weeks and is on pace for 136, which would be second to Marvin Harrison's single season record of 143, set in 2002.

* Welker has 785 receiving yards and is on pace for 2,093, which would break Jerry Rice's record of 1,848, set in 1995. Wes Welker had a career-high 217 receiving yards to set a franchise record (09/25/11) at Buffalo, breaking the previous record set by Terry Glenn with 214 receiving yards.

* Welker has a streak of 67 straight regular season games with at least one reception as a member of the Patriots to extend a franchise record. TE Ben Coates held the previous mark with 63 straight games.

* Welker has caught at least one pass in 84 straight regular season games in his NFL career.

* Welker is tied with six other NFL players as the only players in NFL history to have at least eight receptions, 150 yards and at least one touchdown three times in a single season.

VINCE WILFORK

* Vince Wilfork has two interceptions so far in 2011 and is one of four Patriots defensive lineman to ever register two career interceptions. Anthony Pleasant (2001) is the only other Patriots defensive lineman to record two interceptions in a single season.

BRADY & WELKER ON RECORD-SETTING PACE

* Wes Welker has 51 receptions through six games and is on pace for 136, which would be second to Marvin Harrison's single season record of 143, set in 2002.

* Welker has 785 receiving yards and is on pace for 2,093, which would break Jerry Rice's record of 1,848 set in 1995.

DREW BLEDSOE AND JON MORRIS INTO PATRIOTS HALL

Drew Bledsoe and Jon Morris are the 2011 honorees that were inducted into the Patriots Hall of Fame. The event was free to the public and Patriots fans were encouraged to attend.

Bledsoe was voted by the fans as the 17th player and 18th member to enter the Patriots Hall of Fame. Since the new process for induction was instituted in 2007, Bledsoe earned the highest percentage of votes for any candidate and becomes the first player to be selected by the fans into the Patriots Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

Morris was selected by a 10-person senior selection committee. The selection was made on Friday, March 25 and affirmed with a phone call from Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft, who notified Morris of his induction later that afternoon.

This one should come down to how well the Pats' defense can do against Ben's arm, and how well the Steelers can do with Brady. I would love to see some hurry-up run against Pitt ... I think it would be a good way to get them on their heels and mix it up with the running of BJGE and some more Ridley.

This is going to be a great game.  I dunno about the rest of you, but in my neck of the woods, we've got quite a handful of Steeler fans, so it'll be nice to take them down a peg with a win.

Activated Faulk and placed Dowling on IR ... I'm a bit perplexed with the Bodden release, though I think Kevin has some game left.

It will be interesting to see how the Pats secondary fares against the Steelers. It could be brutal; here's hoping its not.

Patriots' pass coverage is atrocious ... not sure I'll watch any more of this one. There's few things more frustrating than horrible pass defense and missed tackles ... man.

Ugly game for the Pats.

Not to take away from how bad the Pats played, but for the refs not to call a touchdown for that Gronk catch at the goal line, with the rules the way they are today allowing TD's to be reviewed, was irresponsible. It changed the whole dynamic of the game down the stretch. If it is close, signal a TD, review the video and GET IT RIGHT!
