Honestly I hate facebook... But I have to keep in touch with my friends from school last year.

Quite frankly I'm addicted to the internet period and hate it lol.

TP very true.  if i wasnt hooked on facebook, I would be hooked on something else.  Theres SO many things you can do with the internet, if you want to be on the internet, you can easily find a reason to be.

I use Facebook as an online resume and for networking.

 I recommend hiding people that:

1. Post 8 pictures of their kids everyday.
2. Only talk about themselves (ego driven)
3. Complain about everything.

Think Positive Positive Positive.

That's what I do anyway. BTW, who needs FB for good conversation when CB is only a couple clicks away?  ;)

Maybe its just me....but I find it really annoying to see family members (especially those who live in the same house) commenting on each other's status etc.

I wish I could "like" this post.

I love it as basically an emailer or to get into some fun little conversations about things.

I've got a friend that posts his daily activities almost hourly. Very annoying. Also work with a female colleague who posts about her child and puts her child's picture up daily. It almost seems like both people have low self esteem and need people to comment to make them feel important. :-\

I find it weird when someone posts something about saving the whales or global warming and you're like "I don't know if I agree with the premise" and your friend agrees to disagree but then you get a nasty as hell cyber bully email from someone you don't even know saying you're an idiot.   I hope my friends don't do this to my friends.

One of my good friends became addicted to social networking  sites alcohol.  She was going through a divorce, and needed a connection, I guess.  Unfortunately, it led to her neglecting her kids, as she'd be online drinking as close to 24-7 as possible.  That, and a number of other bad decisions over a period of time, led to us not being friends any more.

I don't know if Facebook alcohol is uniquely addictive -- millions of people have no issue with it -- but for some people, it's definitely going to be a problem.

No disrespect to your friend, Roy.  But as I was reading, I noticed a serious relation here between the two addictions.

--------------

What I think a lot of people here don't understand is that while you and maybe many other people can use facebook "properly", even if you can't see how, it is true that some people really can't handle it in moderation (just like alcohol).  My sister is on it all the time and it has driven my Mom a little mad.  My sister posted a picture of her bloodied face after a car accident on FB through her cell phone before she called my mom to tell her about it.  Some people need the attention and this is a medium that really lets you have it if you want it.

So, I feel for you TradeProposalDude, and congrats for getting off facebook as it seems to have done you now serious harm so far.

Love this topic...got rid of my facebook about a month ago, and haven't looked back since. I have a lot more time on my hands to actually be productive now (and to spend on celticsblog, of course)  ;)

Personally I'm not a fan of it. I deleted my account years ago. But we shouldn't take it the social media for granted. It played a pivotal role in both the Tunisian and Egyptian Revolutions of 2011.

Been about a year, and my use of facebook is pretty much the same as it was then.  I enjoy it and really can't see a time when I won't get something out of it.
