Anyone know how NFL trades work?

More specifically, could a Wilfork for Peppers trade work?

There was an article on espn that compared big nose tackles to On Base
Percentage, OBP, guys in MLB.  It basically said teams like the A's and Sox started adopting the Money Ball philosophy because those players at the time were under valued.  In football everybody has started playing 3-4 defense so big nose tackles are not undervalued anymore.

The Pats are a Moneyball team.  They'll start drafting a bunch of Tweeners that everyone undervalues but that suits the hybrid defense they want to deploy.

They could do a sign and trade with Wilfork for draft picks but Peppers is a great Vet to kick off the hybrid defense.  So could a double sign and trade work for Peppers and Wilfork?

Peppers is a free agent (well he will be once the deadline for the franchise tag passes since Carolina wont be franchising him).  No need to trade for him.

Further, if you are going to spend obscene money on one of the players, Vince is significantly more important/a better football fit for this team then Peppers
