Under Isaiah, the Celtics were tough and played with heart and togetherness. Did they lose games or go stretches playing poorly? Yes. But on most nights, they left everything on the court. I don't recall them quitting this badly on such a big stage as last night.

Compared to Isaiah and his teammates, today's Celtics are more talented and are title contenders, but they are mentally weak. There's something in their DNA that's holding them back.

dude was a fighter. tough.  sadly i think what you see is what you get from this core. changes need to happen. 3 coaches could not fix certain players.
LET'S GO CELTICS!

TP

IT had balls and wouldn't back down from anyone. This team is frightened, scared, unsure.

They're like the spoiled rich kid that thinks they're tough but wets their pants the first time they get into a real street fight.

I'd love that IT mentality here.  Tough as nails, unafraid, and clutch.

It really is unbelievable that a guy like that can routinely take over the 4th quarter, but our All-NBA guys with ideal athleticism and size choked in the playoffs.

Loved the guy but we were never winning with him or that team.

Well, we're not winning with this team, either, so I'd rather think fondly of the guy who busted his ass rather than the unfocused bunch we have now.

If we're chucking threes indiscriminately, give me Prime Antoine.

Talk about a guy who would’ve loved this era of basketball, and Mazzulla’s offensive philosophy.

We will have a chance to win every year with this group.

Never a chance with that group.

I will agree they were more enjoyable to watch.

it is between the ears...mental toughness.  I am not sure if it can really be coached into these guys or not?  Maybe they have to fail a couple more times?

Look at these stats.

https://stathead.com/tiny/fygJ4

Since 1997, 2016-2017 Isaiah Thomas is in second place for most points scored in the 4th quarter during the regular season just behind 05-06 Kobe. Kobe scored 31 more points in 106 minutes. With that being said, IT had better percentages across the boards with about 20 more assists which gives him the edge as the king of the 4th quarter. That same season Westbrook ended up 3 points shy of IT in about 60 less minutes but did shoot worse percentages than him while taking an extra 80 shots.

Isaiah was unreal!
