Hoping for a forgettable Butler performance that no one ever brings up when talking about his will to win.

Go C's!
Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time.

But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.

No, I want him to have a huge game but lose. He's usually good for one and I'd rather it come in a game where Boston is locked in.

Every time the C's lose game 1, I end up going through my mental roladex of teams who lost Game 1 and were fine.  Usually starts with Bulls vs Lakers in '91 but then I quickly jump to more recent times:

C's vs Sixers last round
C's vs Heat '22
C's vs Bucks '22
Warriors vs C's '22
Bucks vs Hawks '21
Bucks vs C's '19

Ha, encouraging and discouraging at the same time.  4 of the 5 last playoff series by the Celtics, the team who lost Game 1 wins the series.  Hopefully after this series the record goes to 5 of 6.

And if the team goes down 0-2, I already have other series locked and loaded ready to go:

C's vs Bulls '17
Bucks vs Suns '21
Bucks vs Nets '21
Raptors vs Bucks '19

Fair enough, but if we're swapping 50 point games between Tatum and Butler (which would be amazing) I'd prefer to start with Tatum in a W first :)

Think Zarba will try to gift Miami a 2-0 lead

The last 17 times a home team has lost Game 1, they went on to win Game 2. The stat was 16 before last round until the C's obviously lost Game 1, then beat PHI Game 2. So that's encouraging.

Team needs to actually play like it though. Miami is no cupcake

Love that stat. And I also don't think Miami will keep shooting the way they did in game 1 (although in such a small sample size, I can't rule it out, either). But how many times will I get burned, thinking that they learned their lesson in the last series, only to see them come out half-*ss again the next one. What's the definition of insanity, doing the same thing again and again and hoping for a different result? Argh.

They're probably going to show up and win tonight. That's been the pattern. But Miami has heart, which is more than I can say about Philly or Atlanta. I'm half preparing to get a different result finally: the Celtics blowing a highly winnable series.

The streak stands at 16. It was 14 before the Cs beat Philly, and then the Warriors beat the Lakers to push it to 16.

Also the Heat lost to NY in game 2 after winning on the road in game 1. That made it 14.

Let's hope they've gotten the requisite rude awakening after last Wednesday and tonight they decide to win 4 quarters instead of winning 3 and calling it a night

I do think that if their mental focus/effort pattern holds, this should be a win, and a solid one...as will probably the first game in Miami. It's the 4th game that we need to be worried about, that's when they usually switch off after two wins in a row. If they lose tonight then they're going to be in a difficult position to say the least.
