Wow. Media really love Brown. But to me that's bad news.
You can't give a guy like Brown a supermax.
That's bad cap management. This is trouble.

Sorry for the negative take, but to me this is the sign we need to trade him this summer.

Congrats JB.  Well deserved.

Random question: When is the last time two players that were drafted by the same franchise made 1st and 2nd All NBA for that same team?  Curry and Klay?

You need to actually explain your reasoning behind this, otherwise people will (rightfully) dismiss it. Brown is absolutely deserving of this kind of money, and it is actually good management to extend him like this. Otherwise we will still have little-to-no flexibility, minus our second most valuable asset

I am struggling to think of trade options.

Would you trade Jaylen for JJJ?

actually if he hadn't made all nba, that would have made us need to trade him this summer

Klay never made 2nd Team.

Curry and Draymond did it in in 15-16, which was the same year that Westbrook & Durant did it too

Ew, never! JJJ can't be trusted to even play 30MPG because he is so foul prone, let alone his mediocre offensive game.

Brown is barely a top 30 player. So I find his selection undeserving.
He's basically Middleton. He can score but not much else.

While he plays at a scarce position he definitely won't be an asset when he's on a supermax.
With the wage bill exploding management will probably choose to let some key role players go as a result.

So in the future it will still be Tatum and Brown, but with less help.

Nonsense. He is firmly top 20.

He absolutely will be an asset. Players of his calibre are absolutely tradeworthy. The cap should continue to grow with the new CBA too.

Middleton getting a big contract didn't preclude Milwaukee from adding Holiday, to continue with your comparison. You say "key role players" will be let go - who? Tatum, Smart, Brogdon, White, Williams III and Horford are all contracted until 2025 at least, with some being contracted for longer. This fear has no basis.

If the Celts lose to the Sixers, do you think Jaylen stays to play second fiddle to Tatum? 2nd round exit, #2 option. I think he's gonna want his own team. Can he demand a trade after signing the supermax?  Somebody help me here.

Jaylen hasn't done much to ease my concerns about him this post-season. He is doing fine individually but he still isn't making anyone around him better. He is unable to exert any control over games. Games just seem to happen around him rather than be dictated by him. He doesn't have the ball-handling, passing or decision making necessary to lead an offense.

Part of the reason BOS' offense struggles is Jaylen's lack of playmaking as a #2. That lack of direction, lack of order, lack of cohesiveness. Jaylen taking 20 shots a night but barely getting 3apg with an AST:TO of 1:1.

It does make me wonder whether I over-rate Jaylen when I say he is a clear top 20 player + it does make me wonder whether he is worth that super-max.

Explain to me how signing Brown to the supermax makes the Celtics financial status better and more flexible.
I just don't understand the salary cap well enough to know.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

It doesn’t at all. It just means we can offer our star more than anyone meaning he’ll likely stay, or at the very least, he won’t walk for nothing.

It hasn't been an issue when our secondary offensive pieces (Brogdon, White, Smart). Smart and White are averaging significantly fewer assists in the postseason vs regular season, not to mention Smart's massive drop from the early months of the season. I think when we have other guys picking up the playmaking slack and allowing Brown to just attack, it's less of an issue. I think the more pressing concern is our overall offensive decline. The way we were passing and penetrating before the New Year was amazing.
