Now this is who you trade Jaylen for.

Yeah, this is about the only player i'd trade him for. ONLY thing is though

he plays zero defense...
Isn't that what they say about Jokic too?

As many of us probably did, I thought of trading Brown for Luka when Dallas lost and there was talk of shaking things up there. My second thought was that Dallas would be crazy to do it. First, they could get almost anyone in the league for Luka, why Jaylen Brown?  I’d start with Giannis and work my way from there.  Jaylen and Smart would be the starting offer I guess - which is basically a nickel and a dime for a quarter.

I suppose Tatum would be a different story.  That’s young superstar for young superstar. Luka is better and I’d probably be happy with the trade.  Then the question would still be whether JB is the right second fiddle.

And it is not true in either case.

Both Jokic and Doncic can struggle at the point of attack but both are plus team defenders. Luka much closer to an average defender than a bad defender. And Jokic is a good defender who uses his positioning and size to supreme effect despite his limited quickness & leaping ability.

Yeah, I agree. I think it is also much easier to hide someone with Doncic's size and strength.

He also wouldn't be constantly exhausted from his one man offence role. If he can learn to be as selfless as Jokic then watch out.

People that never watched him play said that. I don’t think anyone is saying he can’t play defense at all after watching the playoffs. Also jokic defensive numbers were excellent

I think when they weren't in condition the built up a reputation as a poor defender because they didn't have the stamina to play both ends.  Jokic is much leaner now and is in much better shape, and it has showed.  Doncic, even this year, still struggled with staying in shape and that really hurts his defense.  Doncic needs to work on his body this summer to really go to the next level as a player and leader.

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I saw Luka at the Garden this season and to me has the body of a beer league softball player. Honestly I thought he was fat - and slow. That doesn't translate into being a good defender though you can get by if the other 4 on the court are.

If the Celtics were to trade for Doncic, IMO, it would be structured (something) like this:

Celtics: Doncic

Mavs: Brown, Smart, Celtics 2024 - Round 1 Pick, Celtics 2026 - Round 1 Pick, Celtics 2029 - Round 1 Pick Swap

Celtics: Bertans

Mavs: Williams (S + T)

—————————

Boston Celtics

Depth Chart

PG White, Prichard

SG Doncic, Brogdon

SF Tatum, Gallinari, Hauser

PF Horford, Muscala, Bertans

C  Williams III, Kornet

—————————

Would I trade for Doncic? No I wouldn't.

IMO, Doncic and Tatum would have issues operating in the same offensive zones, not to mention that Dallas has allowed Doncic to become Harden 2.0, in terms of his terrible off-ball movement and lazy defensive intensity.

Feels like a massive overpay.

Agree, he is not a good fit with Tatum
