Four Lions players, including former first-round pick Jameson Williams, have been suspended for violating the NFL's gambling policy following an investigation by the league.

Lions wide receiver Quintez Cephus and safety C.J. Moore have been suspended indefinitely for betting on NFL games, as was Washington Commanders defensive end Shaka Toney. They can reapply for reinstatement after one year, though the Lions announced that their two players would be released.

Second-year wide receivers Williams and Stanley Berryhill are being suspended for six games each for mobile betting that occurred at the Lions' Allen Park facility. They did not bet on NFL games, the league said.

This is going to happen more and more as gambling becomes more and more normalized.  The NFL won't be the only sport affected, either.
So how does the NFL catch these players violating gambling policy?

NFL at least is a strong org with good enforcement.  College is the wild west with Barney Fife in charge.

Guaranteed money counts, not nominal contract figures that ESPN reports. You're saying that Baltimore offered the same guaranteed deal that Kyler and Deshaun got? Lamar is better than both.

Except for the whole… passing the ball part.

I disagree. Lamar has had a good TE and that's it. Odell Beckham is washed and won't push the needle. I think Lamar has an absolute cannon and has proved that he can dice apart good defenses. All without great weapons.

I'm going to sit by and eat popcorn listening to Ravens fans rationalize that Lamar isn't that good. There are prob. 20 teams that would love to upgrade their QB situation with this guy. The Rams spent money (and draft picks) like drunken fools and ended up with a ring. More teams should be willing to jump in for immediate success, but they won't.

I don't think the Ravens will be happy with what they get if they are only willing to commit to Lamar for one year on a franchise tag.

The sportsbooks presumably report to the NFL what bets their players make and when, and if the when aligns with when players were at a team facility, enforcement happens.

But yea, college sports is the Wild West.  If NFL players who make lots of money still do it, you know college kids are as well.

They aren't.  The Ravens have continually said they want Lamar back and have made him several different offers expressing that interest.  Lamar has only been willing to sign for a fully guaranteed 5 year contract at maximum money.  No team will pay him that because they call could do it right now and none have offered him any contract at all.  Now maybe after the draft a team or two will come out of the woodwork and offer him something, but it almost certainly won't be fully guaranteed.

Having a cannon doesn’t matter much if you’re not accurate with it. A good example being Cam Newton. Lamar was 26th in completion percentage last season. He had 17 passing TD’s last year, 16 the year before. He’s not an accurate passer.

They also contacted Delilah, whose owner, John Terzian, stated “We were contacted about an investigation and reviewed the videos, the claim is false. There is no evidence of this person even being in the area where she claims the incident occurred”

I know nothing about Terzian and any possible connection to OBJ, but he pretty clearly says he reviewed video about the incident, which I'm sure will eventually come out, so I doubt he is lying.

This might be completely anecdotal, but almost every time I've seen Lamar, he has been special. A unicorn on the football field. Yes, his stats (and his team) don't impress.

He deserves to be on a team that is willing to put legit, non-washed up targets around him. I don't think Baltimore (or even the Patriots) would be a good fit for that reason. SF and Miami are teams that come to mind. If Tua was smart, he'd take his millions and retire to live a happy life like Andrew Luck.

The does Lamar have weapons debate is always interesting.  I will say, if he doesn't, it wasn't for lack of trying.

Lamar was the 2nd 1st round pick in 2018, the player taken before him in the draft was TE Haydon Hurst.  They took OT Orlando Brown and TE Mark Andrews in the 3rd round of that draft and took a WR in both the 4th and 5th round (neither worked out).  In 2019, the Ravens took Hollywood Brown in the 1st round, WR Miles Boykin in the 3rd, and RB Justice Hill in the 4th.  They also took G Ben Powers in the 4th (he started every game for them last year).  In 2020, they took RB JK Dobbins in the 2nd, WR Devin Duvernay in the 3rd, and WR James Proche in the 6th.  In 2021, they took Rashod Bateman in the 1st round and used a 4th rounder on WR Tylan Wallace. In 2022, they took 2 TE's in the 4th round (1 was injured, the other played well).

Hollywood Brown, despite being close friends with Lamar, asked to be traded before his contract was up.  Bateman can't stay healthy and Dobbins has struggled with that.  Andrews is a monster and Hurst was very good before he left in free agency (for a better opportunity).  I mean in the 5 years lamar was there, the Ravens used 2 separate 1st round picks on WR's, one of which has been injured and the other has been good, but wanted out.

For the second time in 15 years, the Green Bay Packers are trading an aging icon to the New York Jets.

The Packers agreed Monday to deal quarterback Aaron Rodgers and their 2023 first round pick (No. 15 overall) and a 2023 fifth-round pick (No. 170) to the Jets for New York's 2023 first-round pick (No. 13 overall), a 2023 second round pick (No. 42), a 2023 sixth-round pick (No. 207) and a conditional 2024 second-ro0und pick that becomes a first if Rodgers plays 65% of the plays this season, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday.

AFC is so loaded that I'm not sure how much Rodgers joining the Jets moves the needle for them in terms of AFC hierarchy.  Chiefs, Bengals, & Bills are all still better than NYJ.  I think the Chargers will be strong next season.  Jags are up & coming. Ravens are a question mark but they made the playoffs last season.  Are the Jets better than the Dolphins at this point? Maybe.

Right now, I see the Jets as a wild card team who is probably one & done.

I guess I disagree. I don't think Hollywood is very good. The only player from that list that impresses is Andrews.

Agree.

Buffalo
Cincy
Jacksonville
NYJ
Miami
LA Chargers

The Jets have a good defense and presumably, Rodgers will be good. I'm not sure he will be great. I think they will finish around the Dolphins and behind Buffalo.
