it doesn't help this class that next year there are projected to have 2 No Brainer 1st pick QB's both of which would go 1 in this draft and basically almost every draft.

I know a lot of teams need OL help going to be interesting how many go first round this year. There seems to be mostly project guys that will take time.

There’s a new favorite to be the third overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft: Ohio State offensive tackle Paris Johnson.

Johnson is now the betting favorite (at +250 at Draft Kings) to be the third player drafted, after few if any mock drafts had him going that high throughout the pre-draft process.

So what happened? Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported this week that Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray likes Johnson a lot and has told the decision-makers in Arizona that. There’s now talk that the Cardinals want to draft the franchise left tackle that their franchise quarterback wants blocking for him.

Draft Kings odds are meaningless.  I could see Arizona taking Jones if they trade down, but he's not going in the top three.

yeah if the Cardinals want Johnson they are much better off trading down, especially if Houston really does not go with a QB and Stroud, Levis, etc. are on the board at 3.

The odds aren't meaningless -- they mean a lot of people are suddenly betting on Johnson and Draft Kings doesn't want to be overexposed.  But it's certainly not a bet I would make.

As a side note, predicting the draft has already been a crazy industry, but with the proliferation of online sports betting, the effect of all the smokescreen rumors that teams throw out to confuse each other is now going to have a financial impact for millions of people.

I'm seeing a lot of mock drafts, where the Patriots are picking Bijan Robinson. There seems to be no doubt that he is a blue chip player. If a blue chip player is available at 14, I think you pick that player regardless of position.

I wish I would have the option of being able to relax and watch the draft. However, because of the epic choke job last night, the Celtics will also be playing on the same night in a critical game 6.

A blue chip running back would be a waste on a BB team, I think.  I agree with your thinking in general, but it seems like the NFL has moved on from spending premium picks on non-premium positions.

I bet on a lot of things but if you're betting on the NFL draft, I have to question your sanity.

I guess, if by some stroke of god, you actually hit, good for you but that thing is such a crapshoot.

Yeah, seriously.  NFL front offices have way too much time to talk themselves into being the smartest guys in the room, and making a choice out of left field.

Just because it still fuels my angst today:  a professional talent evaluator once thought it was a good idea to trade up from #3 to #2 to select Mitch Trubisky over Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes.  They traded two thirds (Alvin Kamara; Fred Warner) and a 4th (used to move up for Reuben Foster) for the privilege.

I guess if you had put down money on Mitch Trubisky going #2 in 2017, you'd feel pretty good about life, despite being a degenerate, haha.

The way the last 48 hours have gone for Boston teams, I'm assuming the Pats are drafting a punt return specialist in the first.

The only thing that having Robinson on the board at 14 will mean for the Pats is it could inspire an offer to trade down.  I doubt they go for strengthening an already strong position.

If they can turn Stevenson into decent draft day capital then the upgrade to Robinson could be worth it. I of course am basing my comments regarding Robinson’s value solely on talking heads and zero on observation.  I like Stevenson.

I am not a draft guru by any stretch.  Just too many names, too much uncertainty.  But I will go ahead and make a Patriots prediction anyway.  I don't see any of the players that would realistically be available at 14, being good enough to address the high profile needs/positions.  By that I mostly mean QB, WR.   The WR, for example, that you could get at 14 is not certain to be any better than the WR that you would get in the second round.  I still feel that if they stay at 14, it is likely an OL.

I think the most likely scenario is that they trade down, still pick an OL in the first round or early second (whereever their first pick ends up), then just pick a bunch of good athletes that most of us have never heard of, defensive backs, receivers, linebackers, and of course a TE or 2.

I would be shocked if they trade up and/or trade Mac to target a QB.  I can't imagine that they want to essentially take a step back and start over with a rookie QB.  But that certainly seems to be the talk.

Looks like Texans may be leaning towards Wilson at 2.

Houston (at 12), Green Bay, and New England are apparently taking calls to both move up and to move down.  There are 8 non-QB's considered significantly better than everyone else, so those 3 teams, in particular, are trying to get into that group or drop back and get a similar player later and other assets.

I want the Pats to draft one of the following players at 14: JSN, Zay, Bijan, or Christian Gonzalez (assuming Witherspoon is gone).

There are four top olinemen and one will be available, but I cringe at picking another tackle when the team lacks talent at the skill positions. Draft a million guards and tackles later. As we saw with Isiah Wynn, these first round tackles are not guaranteed to be good, like every other position.

If the Pats can't get a top talent at 14, trade down and go for quantity over quality (again). Let Bill pick as many defensive players as he wants later in the draft.
