I’ve always envisioned him to the Spurs, so I’ll stick with that.

I think a lot of people are in the same boat because of what the Spurs have achieved over the past two decades, but I don’t see them as this amazing fit for Wembanyama.

Gregg Popovich is currently 74 years old and the famed Spurs management talent pool has been drained. They are a small market team that operates on a small market budget.

The Spurs roster is bereft of top tier talent (except maybe Johnson & Vassell).

Wembanyama is perhaps the best talent since Doncic & LeBron, thus you can expect a big upswing in wins his rookie year, which removes his team from the best draft prospects.

IMO, the San Antonio Spurs aren’t the perfect fit that some perceive for Wembanyama.

If the question is what team is the best fit, I’d pick the Celtics.

But, the team I’ve consistently pictured in my mind has been San Antonio.

In terms of want, I used to say the Pels, to screw the Lakers.  But, that could potentially create a juggernaut.

Has anyone had cihance to actually watch him? I’ve watched a number of his games. He did look pretty good in his most recent World Cup qualifying game for France, but he certainly doesn’t seem like he will make a big impact his rookie season. Someone like
Embid, Steve Adams, jokic, JV or any burly post guy would dominate him right now and foul him out in 15 minutes.
I watch him live fairly frequently - it would be a mistake to task him with defending those types of players. His nutrition team have the right idea IMO - targeted, slow, healthy weight gain in core areas, rather than trying to gain a lot of mass quickly and potentially overly straining.

I think he'll be similar to Mobley as a rookie, except 5 inches taller.

He seems much more skilled than Mobley, no? More like rookie KD I would think.

Much more skilled, I was more speaking defensively. Offensively a lot depends on where he ends up.

I’m curious if this guy can fill out physically like Giannis did without having a negative impact on him. If he does, watch out.

I think a lot of how good be becomes will come down to whether he fills out or not. Both of Victors parents are thin, so I don’t think it’s likely that he fills out like Giannis did. His movement is good, but not great, so I can’t see him playing the 3. Still think the closest comp is Porzingis. I don’t think that Victor will be a Giannis or KD type player.

A quicker Porzingis or a modern day Ralph Sampson is how I see him. Maybe if Chet Holmgren had been able to make it through his rookie year we’d have a better bench mark for what he might look like playing against men that outweigh him by 40-50lbs.

Porzingis was pretty quick when he was younger. Below is a clip from his rookie year. Victor might be slightly quicker, but he’s definitely thinner than Kristaps. ESPN lists Porzingis at 7’3”/240lbs.

Porzingis' perimeter skills (dribbling, shooting off the dribble, off-ball movement) are nothing compared to Wembenyama's

Since Michael Jordan purchased Charlotte in 2006, these have been the teams draft positions:

2006: 3rd
2007: 8th
2008: 9th
2009: 12th
2010: no pick
2011: 9th
2012: 2nd
2013: 4th
2014: 9th
2015: 9th
2016: 22nd
2017: 11th
2018: 11th
2019: 12th
2020: 3rd
2021: 11th
2022: 13th

In 17 seasons, Charlotte has been in the draft lottery 14 times, and have yet to receive the first pick.

I just feel it’s going to happen this year.
They may need to win the Sweepstakes in order to keep Ball around long term. That current team works about as well as the last one with Hayward and Rozier worked here. The pieces just don't fit.

If I recall correctly, Porzingis was about 220lbs as a rookie.

How would Wembenyama compare to Dirk?

Yeah, I think you’re right. Webanyama looks like he’s about 180/185lbs.

It’s not a perfect fit from day 1 but I like the idea of Wenbanyama to the Pacers. They have stud in Haliburton and a nice mix of talent to build with. Carlisle is a great coach and I think long term this is a great fit

Yeah, I think you’re right. Webanyama looks like he’s about 180/185lbs.

Just to clarify if his frame holds up I think he will be good. But he is not making an impact as a rookie at 180. I think some fans that have watched him don’t realize how much work his body needs. In that same mode I don’t think Chet would have been dominant as a Rookie.
