Which Fictional Death Affected You Most?

Off the top of my head, the most traumatizing ones definitely seem to be stuff I saw in my childhood. Thomas J in My Girl, Artex in Neverending Story, Charlotte from Charlotte's web.

Definitely need to think of adult ones.

Artex’s death was brutal.

How about the guy in the tower in Saving Private Ryan?

He had advocated for killing the Nazi but they wouldn’t. Then the Nazi gets a knife on him in the tower. The guy screams for his friend down the stairwell who is too scared to help and just whimpers and cries.

And the Nazi tells the the guy to shhhhh, shhhhh, as he slowly pushes the knife into his chest.

My wife still has nightmares about that scene.

Somewhat obscure, but one as an adult, is Stormy Llewellyn from Odd Thomas. Just unexpected and heartbreaking from Thomas' point of view.

Not the TV series, but reading A Game of Thrones in 2000 and reading about his death almost made me throw the book across the room

Somewhat obscure, but one as an adult, is Stormy Llewellyn from Odd Thomas. Just unexpected and heartbreaking from Thomas' point of view.

Yeah.  Ned was a great character, and I couldn’t believe he was really dead for awhile.  I assumed they bring him back somehow, but nope.

That would have made GoT typical fantasy fare.  Ned needed to die to advance the story.  It freed the Stark kids to develop.  Ned was too principled and uncompromising to survive GoT.  As Dany commented in a different situation: "What happens to things that don't bend?"

In the books after the Red Wedding, Caitlyn Stark did come back as something monstrous.

This one is debatable as to whether or not it happened, but I refuse to interpret the end of the Sopranos as Tony getting whacked.  I prefer the interpretation as perhaps we, the viewers, got hit.  But, deep down, I know that's a long shot, so I'm going with Tony Soprano.
