Can’t see a lot of teams lining up for Kyrie and he’s just going to walk this summer.

It is about the Bird Rights or the ability to extend.  He wants an extension.  The Lakers for example, could trade for him and then extend him.  That is the whole idea, he wants to go to a team that will extend him because the Nets won't.  He won't be able to get that kind of money as a FA.  Teams don't have the cap space.

You are not wrong though as most team would not want to extend Kyrie.  But some will.  Some teams will be OK to hitch their wagon to Kyrie for few years if they think he makes them a title contender.  But they probably won't be willing to give the Nets enough to make it worth it for them to do the trade.

OK, I will buy that the Suns are a possibility.  It works straight up:

Kyrie
for
Paul and Crowder

Adds about $2M to Nets cap.  They could send back some min level player if they wanted to make the money work to not add salary.

Could Chris Paul continue playing for 3 more years and then retire with Durant?

Not sure the Lakers can beat that trade.

So the Nets have to trade him then. Otherwise, he’s walking for nothing. Lose/Lose situation.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

Or he tests the market and realizes the Nets are the best offer and he gets over it and signs a contract, just not as big a contract.   Kind of like the last time he demanded a trade.  What was that, 4 months ago or something?

Couldn't they still do a S&T this offseason with him?

I can’t see the Nets wanting to keep him around, even on a reduced salary. He’s caused so many issues on and off the court. Clearly doesn’t care about his team, otherwise this could have been handled in the off-season.

off the cuff some Irving trades that in theory make sense

Irving for Paul, Crowder

Irving, Mills for Westbrook, the picks

Irving for Powell, Covington, Coffey

Irving for Russell

Irving for Hardaway, Bertans, 1st
I didn't do any multi-team trades, but this one makes some sense

Toronto - Westbrook, Reaves, LAL 27, LAL 29
Brooklyn - VanVleet
Los Angeles - Irving, Anunoby

No way The Lakers get the best two players.

Yeah, I know people are just spitballing but that is a major bust deal for TOR.  It is essentially VanVleet and a pick for Westbrook and Reaves and a pick for Anunoby.  TOR could probably get Reaves and the 2 picks just for Anunoby and then why would anyone trade VanVleet for Westbrook?
Not picks like that.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I was just thinking of the CP3 for Kyrie one. That could work for both sides. Give them some fresh blood / new hope. Both teams could use that.

I love the D'Angelo Russell idea. I hadn't thought of that. Former Nets player. They know him & they like him. He is young and looking for a long term commitment. Brooklyn get a PG they can build around next to Durant for the next 5 years unlike with Kyrie who may walk at the end of the season. That is a good swap for BKN.

Minnesota meanwhile has had a disappointing season. Kyrie is a big name. A big time shooter. An interesting fit next to Towns, Gobert and Edwards. That is a major Big 4 to build around.

Phoenix is an interesting situation. That’s the only one that makes sense to me with Paul and Crowder coming back.

Unless LAL gets a third team OR Brooklyn fully blows it up and trades Durant, too, I don’t see why Brooklyn would want their junk.

Any trade would be for a couple of months. It's a big risk for any good team.

Yeah, that seems too perfect not to happen...

Looking forward to the day Kyrie retires.  Most unlikeable player in the league and second place isn’t close behind.
