Everyone knows that the Rooney Rule often creates sham interviews.  Been that way for years which is why they modified it a couple of years back to try and help with the sham part of the process.

As a Dolphins fan, what is most infuriating, but also typical of Dolphins luck is that Miami got screwed by Bill Bellichick’s incompetence with texting. Even in his incompetence, he owns the Dolphins.  :'(

Ah, yes. But, was BB incompetent, or strategic?

If the Miami allegations are true, with the owner offering to pay Flores 100K per loss, then the NFL has a real integrity issue there.  You can't get in bed with the gambling industry then have that stuff going on.   That's exponentially worse than the Deflategate nonsense.

"Integrity of the Shield" and all....

I think there are back channel conversations and back channel meetings that are had that oftentimes influence decisions. I think [the Giants hiring process] is a clear example of that. Bill Belichick is a clear example of that. His resume speaks to that. It was clear to me that decision was made with his influence. That’s part of the problem. That needs to change. There needs to be a fair and equal opportunity to interview and showcase your abilities to lead and earn one of those positions.”

Biting the hand of the guy who helped launch his head coaching career?  Not a smart strategy unlis he’s going full Colin Kaepernick.

Not right to marginalize claims of racism in this way IMO.

If I felt I was the victim of racism, I'd cry racism.

Based on the examples from the lawsuit presented so far, the claims of racism certainly seem dubious.

I expect this to blow up as big as "De-framegate" (Deflategate). If it's just a slap to the wrist or a reminder to not be racist or reminder to not tank then I'd be at a loss for words

Big difference between your comment and TS's comment.

And yet the commissioner pretty mich acknowledged they have a race problem. You know because they do.

Thing is racism is tied to the policy that was put in place to deter racist/biased exclusion of minorities from head coach opportunities. If owners/gms of those teams aren't following that policy it can indeed be cited as racist practice. Even if race has nothing to do with your choice of coach you have to abide by the policy.

Same goes for firing a coach with a winning record. If that coach happens to be considered "a good coach" by players and staff, on top of that winning record two out of three seasons, with no bad behavior reported then race may be brought up as possible reasoning of firing. Most of the Dolphins reasoning for firing Flores are certainly not grounds for termination.

Now I don't think race was a issue in firing Flores only that Flores wouldn't tank and do things upper management wanted. Yet Giant's and Broncos appear to have violated the hiring policy. Sure this is why the league already put out a reminder.

I think everyone agrees on this  statement.   Everyone knows racism exists if they have any shred of sanity.   The texts are pretty [dang]ing but so are their records as head coaches in a win now world.

Brian Flores certainly has a stronger case and deserves looking into too.    Hue Jackson  claims are patently absurd given his performance and now he has back tracked and hurt Flores a little by adding his cents..

Paying to tank is illegal, why wouldn't one just put it out there when it happened. Sports Bribery Act is he law:

Quote
18 U.S. Code § 224 - Bribery in sporting contests

(a) Whoever carries into effect, attempts to carry into effect, or conspires with any other person to carry into effect any scheme in commerce to influence, in any way, by bribery any sporting contest, with knowledge that the purpose of such scheme is to influence by bribery that contest, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned not more than 5 years, or both.
(b) This section shall not be construed as indicating an intent on the part of Congress to occupy the field in which this section operates to the exclusion of a law of any State, territory, Commonwealth, or possession of the United States, and no law of any State, territory, Commonwealth, or possession of the United States, which would be valid in the absence of the section shall be declared invalid, and no local authorities shall be deprived of any jurisdiction over any offense over which they would have jurisdiction in the absence of this section.
(c) As used in this section—
(1) The term “scheme in commerce” means any scheme effectuated in whole or in part through the use in interstate or foreign commerce of any facility for transportation or communication;
(2) The term “sporting contest” means any contest in any sport, between individual contestants or teams of contestants (without regard to the amateur or professional status of the contestants therein), the occurrence of which is publicly announced before its occurrence;
(3) The term “person” means any individual and any partnership, corporation, association, or other entity.
