After doing a brief overview of guys outside the top ten throughout the year, I think top 10 is going to be quite doable, especially if it stays to around 10 contestants. Just in this millennium, I have about 40 players on my draft board so far. I think people will just have to change their mindset a bit and think outside the box when picking players.

A draft like this calls for a LOT of research.

A lot of quality players to be had...quite a few hidden gems.

Is this totally open to ALL available players ever?

Got to be just NBA guys?
yes.  You would pick the NBA season you want to use of the player (so 1 hit wonders so to speak can come into play).  Obviously the restriction will be either no top 5 or no top 10 draft picks (and no territorial so no Wilt, Heinsohn, etc.), but otherwise every player that played in the league would be available.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I looked at 11 to undrafted and I currently have a list of 175+ players.

10 teams 12-15 deep should be great.

Not many high quality centers in this draft
Very true, I think we’ll see some 2nd round / undrafted big men starting on a couple of teams
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

I do think it will be interesting to see what teams do with the lack of true centers.  Are we going to see teams just go the modern route of playing basically a PF at center and for the few teams that get the dominant inside scoring bigs, are the other teams going to try to neutralize them making them guard the perimeter.  Or will we see teams playing lesser players that are more natural centers just to keep pace a bit more?  That is really the most fascinating wrinkle to me in the entire draft.

I want to draft all the centers.

I want an all 7 footer lineup and just play mon-stars style.

Yeah most of the two-way forces in NBA history are unavailable. We do have some amazing defensive anchors left though

When does this go down?
Will either kick off in early December, or to start the new year. I'll add a poll so that people can indicate which they'd prefer.

I'd prefer early December before the season actually starts on December 22 and by then free agency will have been for a couple of weeks so it will probably be a relatively inactive period for basketball related stuff.  I'm fine for January as well, just will be more hectic with the actual season having started, the NFL ramping up for playoffs, etc.

I like it too. Kicking this off before the season begins should ensure interest, and the majority of the votes have been for early December

After we hash out the date, should we do another poll to see whether it's gonna be no top 5 or no top 10?

Sounds good to me.

Given the poll results so far (6-1) and the low participation numbers due to the nature of the draft, I think early December is a lock.

Could start if Friday the 4th of December if that works for everyone?

Sounds good to me. As for the style, I'd vote for no top 10. I think there are plenty of great players to choose from, if the amount of participants remain at around 10-12.

No top 10. That way we dont vote sentimentally for Bird.
