The shooting talent at SG is ridiculous. So many knock-down shooters. Almost every team will have their own version of Klay Thompson.

The PG and SF positions are more mixed.
The shooting talent at SF is a bit lesser, but the scoring talent is incredibly strong. Some really legendary scorers there.

The PG position is a tricky one. So many guards from the 80s and 90s that I like.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

In true generals fashion I’m just going to have a randomised link generator for basketball reference pages and stick to the results I receive, provided they fit the criteria of eligible, unpicked players.
Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much—the wheel, New York, wars and so on—whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time.

But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man—for precisely the same reasons.

It’ll be interesting how people look at combo guards

I feel there’s a lot of elite PF’s, but the 5 spot has a lot more limited guys.

PG could go several ways, all very different. Very excited.

Did we ever decide on a rule set? At some point that will matter when I'm making my picks.  Some of the older players will drop way down my list if we are playing under modern rules with a heavy 3 point emphasis.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I think we are going with modern rules as of last year, can’t recall deciding otherwise

I believe it is modern rules although given the personnel available the league may look more like 2010 than 2023. A lot of skilled size. A lot of physicality.

It would be interesting to see if someone can come up with a small ball three point heavy offense to beat all that size. Or if they will simply have to matchup in order not to get killed on defense.

I think it’s possible if you got the right front court. Using ineligible current players as an example, if you could pair a great defensive duo like Horford & Draymond, you could probably put 3 shooting perimeter players around those two and field a really competitive team.

But, given some of the size available, it would be very risky.

There are a few pretty interesting dynamics at play in this draft: (i) whether you want a pure point guard, (ii) whether the older scoring machines can transition to the three point game, and (iii) whether people are "stuck" playing in a two-big system and how much credit that gives. There are a bunch of great, bigger scorers in this draft...but almost definitionally there are a limited amount of transcendent ones. The truly unstoppable big men aren't available. So it'll be interesting to see how people play that dynamic and whether you can pull off going smaller.

One logistical question -- since I'm afforded the luxury of going first / last...I know this isn't ideal but if I have to pick early or pick late, am I allowed to do so? I.e., if I'm last pick and I'm two hours late, is there any harm done? Or if I have to pick early but don't want to bother gouki, is that an issue?

For your questions, you can send the organizer (who would be Gouki, I presume) who you want to take with the first pick beforehand, and they can pick for you. You can do this for any pick you can't be there for, but obviously you need to send a ranking of players, in case whoever you want most was taken.

As for the last pick, you can do the previously mentioned method. Or nothing is really stopping you from picking later, before the start of the next round.

Generally you are allowed to pick a bit early and late.  Usually if you know you won't be on, it is safest to send a list to someone else to draft for you, but since you are 1st or last that won't matter as much until a multi round day

Presuming that the times for the draft are in the afternoon/evening EST, not in the morning?
