As someone who has only listened to the Spoon, Radiohead and War on Drugs albums on that list (and liked them all), what would you recommend I check out?  Is this whole list somewhat like that?

Kurt Vile used to be in The War on Drugs when they first were starting up--so he might be someone to check out. He's a bit ore laconic than they are.

Real Estate and Whitney are both worth listening to if you're looking for a relaxed sound. I also have a soft spot for Broken Social Scene and Deerhunter if you're looking for something a bit more complex.

If you like mellow, noodly guitar rock I can't recommend Kurt Vile enough.

I would also suggest Future Islands.

These are great suggestions, though one thing to note about Real Estate is they've changed a bit since their first couple of albums.  Unfortunately their frontman / lead singer turns out to have been a major misogynistic creep.  But their most recent album from a couple years ago was still good without him.

Oh yeah --- check out Woods.  They don't have any standout album but they've released something like 9-10 albums and they're all solid.

Grew up in a Church household but thankfully my mom didn't cut me totally off from the world.

Some of my All-Time loves (outside of Gospel)

Tavares (It only takes a minute)

Average White Band (Cut the Cake). These dudes impressed me on Soul Train.

Just about ANYTHING from Ashford and Simpson but one of my faves from them was Love don't make it right.

GQ - Disco Nights

Change - A Lover's Holiday

Invisible Man's Band - All Night thing

Living in a Box - Living in a Box (Yes the band's name WAS "Living in a Box")

So many classics................................

Anybody listened to Thee Oh Sees?  I haven't heard much of them before listening a bunch to Facestabber this year, but I dig them.

Not as much as I did King Gizzard, but they're pretty cool.

Another genre of music I've gotten into this decade -- probably because it's nice to listen to at work -- is nu jazz / spiritual jazz / afro-jazz.

I've loved Flying Lotus for a while now, but there's lots more in the genre.

Kamasi Washington is the big name for me there, but lots of cool albums / artists the last few years:

R+R = Now
The Comet is Coming
Idris Ackamoor & the Pyramids
BADBADNOTGOOD
GoGo Penguin
Thundercat
Shabaka and the Ancestors
Maisha
Emanative
The Heliocentrics
