RULES

DO NOT DISCUSS UNDRAFTED PLAYERS IN THIS THREAD

Each player will be assigned a team and run that team as it's owner. Players to be drafted will be any player that played in any NBA or ABA season. Once a player is drafted he is the property of that team. Once all rounds of the draft are over, each owner will be required to submit a roster picking the season that each of his or her players will be represented by. The season chosen must be a season within the career of the player.

Example:

If your starting five consists of Larry Bird, Shaquille O'Neal, Karl Malone, Chris Paul and Ray Allen , you must select which season each player will be represented by.

Bird - 1984-85
Shaq - 1999-00
Malone - 1989-90
Paul - 2013-14
Allen - 2001-02

After the draft is completed, each team owner will be required to submit a team roster with each player and the year you selected for them to be judged on.

The draft will be a snake draft. The draft will start on Thursday August 22nd, 2019 and go until Tuesday September 2nd, 2019. There will be 12 rounds. On the first 4 days of selections, August 22nd, 23rd, 26th and 27th, there will be one round per day with picks in 15 minute intervals.

The 5th through 12th rounds will be two rounds per day for 4 days with picks in 10 minute intervals.  These rounds will take place on August 28th, 29th, 30th and September 3rd. When the draft ends there will be a period over the next day to trade and the trade deadline will end on September 4th at midnight EST, at which point, all final rosters with a minimum of 12 players will need to be submitted.

Once you have submitted your final roster, you will be able to discuss why your team is the best in this thread up until your votes will be required to be PMed to the commissioner on Sept 6th at midnight EST. There will be two conferences of 6 teams. Your votes will include rankings for each conference and top 11 best teams...11 because you can't vote for your own team.

Teams will be awarded points based on inverted order of the top 12 teams. 11 points for a #1 vote down to 1 point for a #11 vote. Team with the most points will be declared winner of their conference and overall winner. Team from the other conference with the most points wins their conference.

If two teams tie for the overall championship and are from different conferences, tie breaker will go to the team with the most #1 votes. If still tied, team with most #2 votes wins, if still tied most #3 votes wins and so on. If tied until the end the game will have co-champions.

If there is a tie for conference champions as shown from the overall vote, that is when the conference votes will be need to used to determine conference champions. Team that has most conference votes wins the tie breaker and if there are still tied, tiebreakers will work similar to the overall tiebreaker rules.

Teams will be assigned to players on August 20th, 2019 at 7:00PM EST and the draft lottery will be held at the same time. There will be a trading moratorium in place until August 22nd at 10AM at which point trades can be made and/or announced. All trades will need to meet league approval. If I feel there is a trade that is questionable and not in the interest of the game, I as commissioner will disallow it. I, as commissioner, will have final word and approval. Also note, we are trading the best players ever having their best seasons ever so most trades will probably get approved unless there is some ridiculous outlier of a trade. Trades must be presented to the commissioner by both parties via personal message and announced by the commissioner before they are considered done. If trying to beat a deadline on the time for a pick, make the selection for the team and then do the trade.

The main rule here is the same for all of Celticsblog, respect each other and have fun. Friendly banter is allowed and encouraged but ultimately this is for fun. The commissioner will have the authority to replace team owners due to behavior or lack of performance. In the event of the inability to find a suitable replacement, the team could be dissolved and the players re-entered into the draft. This will be a decision that will be avoided at all costs and will be a last resort scenario.

Discuss advice on your team from the people publicly in thread but, discuss individual players that have yet to be picked with people via PM. Remember, people will put a lot of thought and research into who they may want to select, so please refrain from talking about undrafted players in public. This is a very serious rule. Please abide by it.

Picks are due before the time listed in the Draft Thread. Owners may make their selection at anytime before their allotted deadline so long as the owner of the pick in front of them has made their pick or exceeded his/her allotted deadline.

If an owner will not be available to make a selection he can give a list of players that he would be willing to draft in preferential order to the commissioner, who will make the selection. IMPORTANT: Please supply a list long enough to still have one available player left in case all the teams selecting in front of you happen to select all the players you desire. As a fill-in selector I CAN NOT arbitrarily make the selection for you, I must have a name of a player that is provided to me that is available.

If for some reason an owner does not make a selection then at 10:00 AM on the morning after the round where a selection was not made, I will be making the selection for the team from this list:

https://www.basketball-reference.com/awards/slam_500_greatest.html.

Highest rated available player will be assigned to the team that missed their pick at that time. If more than one selection needs to be assigned then the best available player will go to the team that had the highest pick, the 2nd best player to the team with the second highest pick, and so on. If an owner of a team misses two picks without good reason(the commissioner will determine whether the reason was good), the owner is subject to losing the team and another owner will be searched for as a replacement.

HAVE FUN AND LEARN SOME HISTORY!!

Please post that you abide by these rules after reading them.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

#1 ANNOUNCEMENT: Please when making your selection, state your team and the pick you are using. Let's use a standard system for naming picks. Something like:

Round(pick in round)

Such that the 5th pick in round 3 = 3(5)
Pick 1 in round 8 = 8(1)

You get the point.

Also, use this abbreviation for picks in trades and if you can make the trade similar to this:

Team 1 sends 5(7) and 9(4)
Team 2 sends 6(12) and 7(1)

So a standard announcement of your pick would be:

The Brooklyn Nets with pick 13(13) select Kyrie Irving

All this just makes things easier for me and will make the game easier and more enjoyable to you.

**********

#2 ANNOUNCEMENT: These games at CelticsStrong will last only as long as our non-confrontational, overly critical or disrespectful way of saying things lasts. The history of these games is once talk like that starts so do confrontations, hard feelings, disrespectful posting, drama and subsequent suspensions from using the site. I kid you not this has led to some bad stuff in the past. So, try to state things as respectfully as you can, especially criticism. For example: Instead of "horrible" or "crazy" pick, just say it's a pick that might be too early or one you might not make.

**********

#3 ANNOUNCEMENT: Somehow or another, I just discovered, a Shaq vs. Hakeem debate that belongs in this thread, spilled over into an old Shaq thread. THIS GAME IS MEANT TO STAY RIGHT HERE, IN THIS THREAD!!! I will not tolerate discussions, or worse, full out arguments over players on your teams making their way out of this thread.

**********

#4ANNOUNCEMENT

As we have reached the end of the 10th round, most teams rotations are probably in place. So why not open up the "How Does My Team Look" thread. For this weekend here are a few rules for the thread:

1. To participate, you must have your first post in the thread be a look at your roster, rotation and brief synopsys of how you see your team working.

2. Thereafter, pick a team you want to critique and do so in a positive/constructive criticism type way.

3. Do not compare the team to your team or any other team. Do not compare players on that team to players on your team or any other.

4. If someone spends time critiquing your team you are obligated to critique their team.

5. Non-participants are welcome, but all non-participants are expected to abide by Rules 2 and 3.

#5
ANNOUNCEMENT

Today is the final day of drafting for your teams. Team rosters do not have to be turned in until 11:59:59 PM EST on Wednesday September 4th(just before midnight tomorrow. When being turned in, make sure you include the season you are using for each player.

Trades can be made up until the time your team needs to be submitted for public consumption. Once you submit your team, you are ineligible to make a trade.

Once the round closes today, this thread will be locked, until after the voting has taken place and the Conference standings and Finals winner is announced. I will post everyone's submission for their final team in the original post after I receive them via PM. Please, for simplicity, PM me your players and year used in this format:

Starters
Player 1 2000-01
Player 2 1965-66
Player 3 1981-82
Player 4 2009-10
Player 5 1991-92

Bench
Player 6 1972-73
...
...
...
Player 12 1954-55

Once drafting is over, go to the How Does My Team Look Thread and you may post and discuss your team, your players, your strategy, how you think you compare to other teams..... anything you want there.

JUST STAY AWAY FROM THE OVERLY NEGATIVE AND AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR I HAVE ASKED OF YOU ALL GAME!!!

Voting will take place after all teams have submitted their rosters to me, the Commissioner. Final ballots do not need to be made until 11:59:59 PM EST Friday September 6th. This gives you two days to talk up and defend your team while comparing it to others in the HDMTL Thread. Once I receive all ballots, I will run the numbers, announce the Conference's winners, the Finals winners, the Conference's standings and everyone's ballot in a post by post reveal at a time to be determined. If everyone's ballots are in Thursday, I will reveal Friday at noon. If I have them early Friday, I will reveal Friday night at 8:00PM, otherwise it will be Saturday at noon. All times EST.

Good luck everyone.

And thanks for participating!!!

Hat tip to nickagneta. I don’t think anybody can appreciate how much work goes into Commissioning one of these unless they’ve done it.

Don’t give the man a hard time, haha.

I had a fun team in mind (type of team) if I got the #1 pick. At first, I didn't think it would be fun to build around the player that is expected to go #1 but after thinking about you could do some really fun things around that player.

I couldn't figure out a team I was comfortable with with the guy who might go #2. Making the pieces fit. Getting the balance right. Just never felt comfortable with him.

I am excited to see all the different types of teams that get built around all of these guys. Lots of fun stuff to think about.

I think the presumed #1 guy can fit any team, but I’d pick another guy that I feel has a more unique skill set.

As the person with the #1 pick I am not entirely sure which way I'll go! All this pressure!

it's easy. you're philly so with the #1 pick you select fultz.  ;D

we all expect you to intentionally have a crappy draft and team just so the lakers finish dead last. it's the least you can do for our celtics.  ;D

My team is going to be purely injury-prone players who can't shoot ;)

Haha no, I'll be drafting the best team I can according to my standards. Pretty sure that most of you guys won't buy the reasoning though lol.
