Christian Wood, Wendell Carter, Otto Porter, Josh Richardson. Beyond those 4 guys, anyone that’s a defensive wing that can shoot 3’s or however close to an Al Horford replacement we can get.
Otto Porter is a FA but if the C's would want him at his price wouldn't it need to be a S&T? Josh Richardson will be an expiring contract so I double outside of a 2nd rounder the C's would need to give up much to get him back. He'd be great on the bench and would fit this team perfectly. For me Otto Porter is the better player and my favorite target. Richardson would be a good consolation prize. Neither should cost much outside of the Warriors agreeing to a S&T. I'd also like Bobby Portis but he will be out of the C's price range. He'd be great off the bench and would allow the C's to limit Al's minutes.
As for replacing Horford I doubt we will need to worry about that until after next year. I would love the c's to sign a young replacement. There really isn't anyone out there that can do half of what he does. This team needs a 3 & D PF. I'd say we'd be drafting his replacement but there is no 1st round pick. Jaylin Williams would be a great young prospect to target if he falls late in the 1st early 2nd. He needs to develop a 3pt shot but he can guard 2-5 and can pass. The celticsblog article had a bit on him and nbadraft.net has more. He's projected to Dallas at 26 after a good combine.
NBA Comparison: Bobby Portis/Elden Campbell
Strengths: A relentless, versatile center who is built for the modern game with his disruptiveness and defensive acumen … Top of the key offensive initiator with great court vision and powerful, accurate passing leading to 2.6 assists per game his sophomore season … High-level athlete who can put the ball on the floor and play mobile on both ends of the floor … Has the potential to expand his range beyond the 3-point line … Boxes out well with the size and length to be a great rebounder … Averaged nearly 10 rebounds per game at Arkansas this season … Extremely smart defender who was the best player in the nation at rotating over and drawing charges … It is an understatement to call him a pesky defender … Defensive versatility is his greatest strength as he can guard just about any player on the floor, allowing his team to switch anything … High motor player who sets the tone defensively and has the stamina to play for long stretches. Averaged nearly 32 minutes per game for the Razorbacks and significantly improved in staying out of foul trouble … Williams fouled nearly five times per 40 minutes as a freshman and reduced this to 3.3 fouls per 40 minutes as a sophomore … Active hands on entry passes … Isn’t afraid to put his body into opponents in the post on both ends … Meets players at the rim as he averaged over a block per game … Creates chaos and turnovers on defense with 54 drawn charges and 48 steals on the season … Showed out against elite big men like Chet Holmgren, Drew Timme and Mark Williams in the NCAA Tournament … Will give you everything he has whenever he is on the floor and simply knows how to win and make players better around him …
Weaknesses: Is comfortable shooting on the perimeter and has the potential to be a capable threat, but that won’t come instantly at the next level and will probably need a few years to get to that point … Extremely hesitant to shoot outside of the paint … Averaged nearly two turnovers per game … It’s reasonable to expect more than a block per game from a player who roamed the paint as much as he did, so we might not see the same shot blocking prowess at the next level with longer and stronger athletes … Won’t put up great scoring numbers during his career, as most teams will solely desire his defensive traits and production … Doesn’t fear contact but could still get a little stronger …
