No. Buddy Hield is about to be 25 years old, he’s not nearly the athlete that Brown is and he’s a below average defender. He’s putting up numbers on a mediocre team (yeah I know their record, give it time). Jaylen has struggled early this year adapting to a new role but Hield is basically at his ceiling. Jaylen will be the better player long term.

The degree of Doncic love is comparable to the degree of Jaylen hate.
Jaylen Brown for All-NBA

Buddy is 25 next week, Brown just turned 22.
I like Brown more.

I like the Sacramentos Bogdanović more than Buddy.
He can also shoot but is a better defender and ballhandler.
Just a year older than Hield.

This would have seemed like a crazy question last year.  Maybe it's not so crazy right now.  Obviously our timeline to compete for a title has moved up and Brown seems to have regressed this year.  Maybe Hield would be more of help than Brown in the next few seasons.

Hield is the guy I wanted in the draft. From everything I had heard he just had an elite work ethic and it has clearly translated to the NBA. The way he fights to get open reminds me so much of Richard Hamilton - one of my favorite players of the modern era. Hield has much more instinct on the offensive side of the ball, Jaylens poor feel for the game and uncertainty when to attack really hurts him at times. Jaylen, however, has the advantage of being three years younger, and seems like a smart guy who will figure it out. I still think his ceiling is a Jason Richardson type, which isn’t horrible.

I don’t think Jaylens a bust by any means, but right now he’s only like the 9th best player from the 2016 class.

B. Simmons
B. Hield
J. Murray
D. Sabonis
B. Ingram
M. Brogdon
P. Siakam
C. LeVert

Are all guy still from that class I’d take over Brown on the C’s right now.

Yeah Bogdanović is pretty awesome.

If I had to pick I would pick Brown. Precisely for the reasons you listed.

But these guys, regardless of their age, are just sophomores...So volatile.

Man, the NBA is a tough place, 20-something year olds being judged constantly, and labeled bad at their jobs with no career prospects when they have 20 bad games...haha

IMO, he is the best fit for our team out of the group.

1st - I leave out the poor outside shooters or non-shooters;
B. Simmons
D. Sabonis
P. Siakam
B. Ingram

2nd - I am scared of injury history
C. LeVert (rooting for him!)

3rd - I am looking for defensive versatility
B. Hield
J. Murray
M. Brogdon

Yup, I still like Brown the most.

I too wanted Buddy Hield in that draft, but also liked Jamal Murray, perhaps even more.  I wanted a shooter so didn't seriously consider Brown.

If we're playing the "Monday Morning Quarterback" game, we should have taken Murray.

They're in their third year, not second, but yes they are still pretty new to the league
I'm bitter.

Brown had a rough start, but let's be real here. If you ask people to rank that draft, Brown will be at worst 3rd.

I liked Heild in the draft but have people already forgotten how Brown played last season and in the playoffs?  He is off to a bad start this season relatively (although not all that bad for such a young player) and I don't know why but I suspect he is battling injuries.

I am going to stick with Brown.  Heild may well be good too.

well that is interesting.  Simmons clearly is still 1, but then it gets interesting.  I think Ingram probably still goes 2, but I don't know that he has so clearly separated from the group of Brown, Murray, Sabonis, and Hield.  Prince is probably also in that mix and the way Siakam is playing this year, he is probably skyrocketing up the charts.  Then you have LeVert, who unfortunately keeps getting hurt, but was playing like the 2nd best player in this draft before the injury.   So I think it is Simmons then Ingram, but then you really do have an interesting discussion on the next group who depending on the team all could go 3.  I'd probably still have Brown at 3, but Murray is making that difficult for me (and he is younger than Brown unlike many of the others).
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

On a bad team or a less deep team Jaylen's numbers would be much better.  All these young Celtics will have lesser numbers due to the nature of our team.   Only the eye test matters.  Jaylen's level of play in an important playoff run speaks volumes.

At this point I'd only draft Simmons ahead of him.  That's not a knock on the success of the others.  The players mentioned above are all doing very well and all could have made good Celtics.
Murray, Brogdon and Ingram in particular.

Hield is very good...but I'll take Jaylen's defense, size and youth..
