Title: Dwight Howard changing his game to be more like Durant/Davis

His goal is to become his own version of Durant and Davis.

If anyone remembers Last year offseason,  he claimed he developed a 3-pt shot.

I've come to the conclusion that Howard's problem is and has always been that lacks any self-awareness.

Scoring isn't what made him great in the NBA and he refuses to accept that.

Good grief. He's never had an offensive game outside of dunks, and he never will.

His mindset that he wants to lose weight, get in better shape and be a quicker player is right on the money. He totally loses me though when he says he wants to add ball handling and shooting skills.

Baby steps Dwight. How about you start with hitting free throws and learning how to pass without creating a turnover?

Lol. And people thought the Wiz adding Howard would be a good thing because he posted numbers on a disjointed and poorly constructed Charlotte team last year. He is going to try to take offensive matters into his own hands in Washington and when Wall starts getting miffed because he isn't making shots Wall thinks he should have had, that team will implode. Watch, I predict Washington doesn't finish higher than 7th in the conference. Howard is toxic and suffers delusions of grandeur

Good for Dwight. He wouldn't be the first player to have a career renaissance in his mid 30's. Its rare but this was also a guy who was a legitimate MVP candidate and carried a team to the finals. He's fought using the face up game but he has also been one of the most efficient pick and roll players in the league at times.

If Dwight can embrace a more open game while keeping his power it'll be a strong addition for the Wizards. 3 point shooting? Ball handling? Maybe he'll find it maybe he won't but he's arguably in the best situation since Orlando.

As a Celtics fan I hope he continues to be mediocre, KG screaming "paint your face clown!" is something I'll never forget and he's now been run out of his last 2 teams.

As an NBA fan good luck to him. Anyone who can take on honest look at themselves and work on their flaws is alright in my book.

Either way Washington should be more interesting than they've been in years.

So you want to shoot 3's?

Dwight Howard is a traditional Center, a dying breed in the NBA. He is the last of their dominant kinds.

i dont really get the level of dismissal here. Maybe he wont have a turnaround, but he dropped his body fat from 12% to 3.5% and that is flat out hard work and dedication. Why rag on him so hard?

Any fool can diet and exercise and reduce their body fat percentage. It takes talent to do the things Durant and Davis can do, talent that Howard doesn't have.

If Howard could just concentrate on the things he does best.....defense, rebounding and rim running, could improve his free throw shooting somehow, gave 100% every second he was on the floor and played and acted like he cared, he would have been a monster over the last decade. Instead he's, well, Dwight Howard, the guy who snuck up on his coach to hug him while the coach was giving an interview saying Howard went to ownership to get him fired. Or the guy Kobe said was soft like a Teddy Bear. Or the guy that is now on his 4th team in 4 years and 6th team in 8 years.

It should be noted the bulk of this supposed body change occurred prior to last season, and he was jettisoned yet again.  While he may have not been in top shape in Atlanta, he pretty much was in Charlottr, and he was same old Dwight.  As others have said, spending time trying to become Anthony Davis is both a waste of time and a lack of awareness, which has been the story of Dwight for pretty much all of this decade.  He should be spending his tome working on how to better guard perimeter players, either bigs or smalls on switches.  John Wall, despite my criticism of him, will happily throw Dwight alley-oops all day long, and those plus outbacks are more than enough to make him an effective offensive player.  It’s that he’s useless on defense if not guarding a plodding center that has hurt his on-court value.

The deficiencies Dwight Howard has, such as poor court vision, poor court awareness, poor situational awareness, and poor handling, to name a few, are difficult to overcome. He's still a nice center though.

Good thoughts.  If Dwight can develop a 3-pointer, more power to him.  It's the trend with big men as they try to extend their careers.
