I'm curious how other Celtic fans feel about our trademark "Beat LA" chant being used by other fans around the league?

Quote
After Howard slammed home a dunk with 2:21 to play, the chant of "Beat LA!" went up from the Orlando crowd - which included golf superstar Tiger Woods. (Washington Post)

In the final minutes of the Nuggets' series-clinching victory over Dallas, a "Beat L.A." chant could be heard as the crowd exuberantly and derisively called out its next opponent. (LA Times)

It dilutes the Lakers Celtics rivalry which has been around for pretty much every decade of the NBA. (the 90s excluded)

"Beat LA" will always be associated with the Celtics. If people want to rip off our amazing fans, let them. However, it also means the Lakers are relevant. Now that is something I don't like.

I don't have an issue with other fans using it.  We should be flattered that other teams share this feeling and chose to use one of our trademark chants.

I may be mistaken but I don't think it even started in Boston. Im pretty sure it started in Philadelphia.

No doubt that its ours now, however.

EDIT: I am mistaken, if wikipedia is correct, which i think it is here.

Quote from: Wiki
One of the lasting effects on the Lakers-Celtics rivalry was the usage of the famous "Beat L.A.!!!" chant, sung by fans in opposing arenas whenever a Los Angeles-based team plays in their home venue. Celtics fans sang the slogan in the 1960s at Boston Garden, and again in the 1980s in the Johnson-Bird rivalry. Perhaps its most famous usage was during Game 7 the 1982 Eastern Conference Championships when the Boston fans urged the victorious Sixers to "Beat L.A."[2]. It has kept on with every Los Angeles sports franchise since then. The two teams met again in the 2008 NBA Finals, reviving the rivalry once again.

"A" for effort though, huh?

Didn't see the poll. I like other teams using the Beat LA chant, its like they're the basketball version of the yankees now. And if that chant galvanizes the Magic to in fact beat la in the finals, all the better.

I do however, object to anyone making "Beat LA" t-shirts. They should be while, with green letters, and sold only in boston.

I remember it vividly from 82.

Great chant -- would love to hear it every single night the Lakers play.
sometimes you have to bite your lip, exhale and move on.  So, I have.

I like it. To me it's the rest of the league paying homage to the Celtics franchise and Boston fans.

Its nice that every other team's fans hate the lakers--but I feel like they're stealing from Celtics lore when they use our chant. I guess its ok... but I don't like it  :-\

Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I'm not really feeling it because I find it hard to believe that half the fans that partake in the chant actually know it came from us.

To me, that stuff really means nothing.  What I would've found interesting is if the Magic finished off the Cavs in Cleveland, and the Cavs fans started that chant.  Obviously your own fans want you to win, but if the fans of the team that you just beat start rooting for you, that's something.  And that's is why what happened in '82 was so amazing.

The Beat LA chant isn't bad, but what I'm starting to enjoy for some reason is when random places start chanting "Boston sucks!".  To me it looks like jealousy.  Why would Bulls fans chant that in the first round?  I could understand Lakers fans last year, but Bulls fans?

I also heard Orlando fans chanting "Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, good bye".  That chant reached it's peak in game 6 of the 2008 Finals.  It will never be as cool as it was then.

You forgot the "I don't care" option.

I didnt know the "Beat LA" chant was exclusive to Boston.

It's not exactly hard to come up with - and I'm sure the Lakers hear on it every road game, as well as the Dodgers and their professional football team...err
