Ok, off-season thread. We didn’t see much of him this year, and it’s a deep guard rotation we have with White, Smart, Brogdon, and to an extent, JB. PP is also ahead of him on the depth chart.

But with a season under his belt and an offseason coming… is there any reason to believe he can crack minutes beyond garbage time?

Wish that he would though. I think JD will be a nice change of pace guard. He's also a true point guard. I watched him a bunch in Maine and he can really distribute the ball.

I have to be honest - Davison is one of my green-tintiest fan goggle players out there.

Future Eric Bledsoe-type player. Just needs time.

I expect JD Davison to replace Pritchard as 3rd string PG and takeover his role and minutes.

I see Davison filling in as a regular in the team when we have backcourt injuries which given Smart's and Brogdon's injury history should afford Davison a decent amount of time to show what he can do next year. Outside of those injury moments, I do not expect him to play much. He is a deep bench player (for now).

Home court advantage in playoffs is kind of a current joke in today's NBA.

They regular season should be used more experimentally to develop young guys like JD Davison.  This is how the Heat seem to approach it.

This is what I was thinking. Pritchard probably gets traded this summer and Davidson steps into that role.

My prediction is that we see Brogdon moved for a wing with size or a big to incorporate into the rotation with Al and Rob. This will leave Smart and White to split the PG minutes. Assuming PP is also traded I can see BS brining in a vet to compete with JD for the 3rd pg role.

I'm more curious about Kabangele. Will the team keep him? With Horford aging and Timelord not being healthy, we are so thin in big depth. Grant might also chase greener pastures this off season too.

Do people think that Grant can play the 5 well?   His rebounding is decidedly subpar for a big.

Davison is a great athlete and cost controlled.   I think he will make the roster, whether he sees the floor is another thing.

Contemplating JD's role next season sent me down a rabbit hole...

all stats per 36 stats this past season in the g-league

Player A 19ppg 7.6ast 4.1TO 27% on 3.1 3PA 76% from FT 7.6rb 19 years old

Player B 14.4ppg 10ast 3.3TO 31% on 2.8 3PA 73% from FT 4.8rb 20 years old

Its probably obvious but player A is Scoot and player B is JD. In no way am I saying they are the same level of player or prospect but it shows the talent level of JD compared to a generation PG who is about to go top 3 in this draft and is only 1 year and a few months younger then JD and slightly bigger/longer.

For me this really highlights the value of "pre-drafting" prospects. Had JD stayed in college or gone to the G-league route (issues with sharing a back-court with Scoot not withstanding) I think he would have cracked the 25-35 range in this current draft.

Maz won't play him. So, it doesn't matter if he stays or leaves.

He's a good change of pace guard. I wish he'd get a chance with the regulars from time to time. Just to see what he can do in meaningful minutes

JD has to be refreshing twitter every 30 seconds trying to figure out what PG's are still on this team.
