Obviously it is way too early in his career to know how good he truly can be, but I'm sure we can all agree Jayson Tatum is a very special talent.

I'm curious to see what people think about the "career arc" of Tatum.

I’m going to say no, because the guys he reminds me of never won MVPs. Pierce, Granger, George, even peak-Carmelo.  But he looks like he could fall anywhere from occasional all-star to perennial all-star.

The odds are against him. So few players actually win an MVP. He'll be contending with Durant, Curry, and Harden for a few more years and then AD, Giannis, and (probably) KAT after them, on top of whoever else emerges. It's really hard and really rare.

So I voted yes.  ;D

This is where I'm at, especially when you have players like Giannis and AD that are still very young and someone like Ben Simmons that is a walking triple double in the same general age range.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

No, I'd be optimistic and vote yes for multiple All-NBA and All-Star selections though.

19 years old and top 30ish player? Sounds like someone who has a pretty good shot at being MVP at some point. If you think Giannis will likely be one, you'd have to be buying Tatum as he's already way ahead of Giannis' trajectory at 19.

Finals MVP, heck ya, multiple of those.  ;)  Maybe a few ASG ones too, but I don't really care about those.

League MVP, I think Roy laid out the reasons against perfectly.

Even all time recent greats like Kobe, Garnett, Dirk, Hakeem, Shaq, Iverson only were able to win 1.  Jason Kidd, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, Tracy McGrady, guys who were considered among the top 3-5 players in the league in their prime never won any.  So really an uphill battle.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I voted yes but maybe on a technicality because I believe he will win at least one finals MVP and since the question didn't state regular season I said yes. I would probabaly lean towards no regular season MVP but i think he has a great chance to be a top 5 player and a top 2 scorer in the league who maybe if things go right and the team has a great year could win an MVP.

Agreed 100%. I don't think he'll ever be on a team where he's the majority of the offense, which will prevent him from winning MVP, but I think he has a good shot at being the best player on a Championship winning team (or, at least the best player in a series)
I'm bitter.

I said no, though I think JT is an awesome player with a lot of growth potential.  As we saw against Philly, the Cs have a really balanced team, and Danny has built the team to stay that way for a while.  Last night, our best player scored 7 points, and it was a 20 point blowout win.

MVPs generally go to guys who put up big stats.  The way the Cs are built, no one guy is going to go for 30 every night.  Kyrie will have a big game one day, Hayward the next, JT, JB, etc.  Or Brad will try and balance the minutes so no one gets overworked since the bench is also strong.  It will be hard for JT to get enough minutes and enough touches to put up MVP numbers while the team is built like this.

This thought crossed my mind but he's still only 20. 8 years from now he could be in his prime, there's no telling what kind of a team he'll be on.

It's hard to say. Assuming no really major injuries he strikes me as the type of guy who could have 15 really productive years in the NBA. Who know what situations he'll be in for those years and who knows what his ceiling is.

He could be the next Durant for all we know, and who's to say he won't wind up in a situation where he's the clear alpha on a team and drops 30+ points a game for a season at some point in his career.

So to sum it up, * shrug * lol. Actually I voted yes, I'll be optimistic.
