MVP Poll How To: If you remember the drill, great. If not, just wing it. .
I didn't have the energy left in me last night to put the poll up before retiring from the blog at 2 AM (and I had to drag myself away). A night on par with any of the great ones in the long list of great ones for this franchise. An absolute gem of a win and a tremendous display of determination. How do you pick an MVP for this one?
So many key efforts - not the least of which by Doc who kept the troups fighting even when they were getting spanked. After cutting the deficit to 12 late in the first half, the team could have been deflated when the Lakers sank 2 3's in the waning moments to push it back to 18. Nope. The Celtys kept pushing.
For your consideration for Game MVP
Posey: Came up with some much needed scoring in the first half to keep the team from falling even further back. He hit two ginormous 3's in the 4th. He played his usual stellar D and he did so with 5 fouls late.
Pierce:Came out in the second half driving HARD to hoop. More importantly shut down Kobe, when everyone in the world knew it was "Kobe time". Steel will by the Captain.
Ray Allen: When push comes to shove, if I had to pick one guy for MVP, I'd have to say it was Ray. Some absolutely glorious drives to hoop in the 4th. An sweet reverse spinner, and a classic clear out, while the clock was running down, blowing past everyone for a lay-in. He also had 9 boards, including a giant one off the offensive glass with the Celts clinging to a one point lead. And, oh yeh, he played all 48 minutes and looked like the starter with the most legs at the end.
KG: He came out determined to work the post in the second half and made a huge hoop with 2 minutes to go to give the Celts their first 5 point pad. With Perk injured, and the team going with a small lineup, KG manned the middle and did the job.
House: Ready Eddie was thrust into big minutes (24 were his most of the playoffs, and more than he played the entire Detroit series). With Rondo ineffective, House handled the point soundly. He had zero turnovers, made the Lakers spread the D to cover him, and showed the spark this team needed. When the Celts finally got within striking distance, they had several chances to go ahead and missed. It was Eddie who finally put the C's on top, sticking a J with 4 minutes to go.
Other notes:
- Tony Allen played just 2 minutes but had a +10 on the +/- ratio.
- Powe had a nice stint, grabbing 5 boards in short minutes and giving KG some needed rest before the streych run
- CELTS RULE!
So...where do you go with this one? How do you leave anyone off? Well, here goes: Ray Allen 2, Pierce 2, Posey 1, House 1 (uggh I hate leaving KG off, but I can't figure out another way)[/b]
