The Rockets lost Ariza and don't have a starting 3/4 guy. Unfortunately for them, they do not have a lot of cap space as they need to resign Capela. The Celtics have too many guys that need minutes. We also could use so more cap space to maybe resign smart to a longer-term deal.

I propose the rockets send: the rockets 2021 first round pick top 3 protected

The Celtics send: Marcus Morris, Daniel Theis and a Celtics second-round pick

The rockets do this because they get they get their replacement for Ariza with Morris. Another major concern they have is their bigs being played out of the game. They don't have a big man who can play defence and shoot the three. Theis can kind of take Ryan Andersons minutes and really help them off the bench. They can have an 8 man rotation of
Paul
Harden
tucker
Morris
Capela
With Eric Gordon, Gerald green and theis coming off the bench
Gordon takes minutes from the guards Gerald green takes minutes from Tucker and Morris,
Thesis backs up Capela and takes some minutes at the 4.

The Celtics get to add to their treasure trove of assets while clearing playing time for the young guys without hurting their chances of competing.
Kyrie said this is how he plays the celtics on 2k
Kyrie
Brown
Hayward
Tatum
Horford
Then we would resign smart either to the QO or to a longer-term deal. This trade opens up about 6.5 million dollars more in cap room. I would really like to sign Smart to a long-term will barton type deal at 4 years 50-54 million dollars.
I think 12 to 12.5 million dollars is a good compromise considering the cap is also expected to rise a decent amount
Rozier as your 7th man
Baynes as the 8th man
Brad Wannamaker, Semi ojeleye and Robert Williams fight for the 9, 10 11th spot on the roster.
This trade gives  Robert Williams a chance to compete for daniel's role.
Signing Smart to that type of deal would still have the Celtics 2 million dollars under the cap.

This also helps stockpile for a potential AD trade down the road with Smart signed to a bigger contract so it's easier to match up salaries. The rockets pick has the potential to be decent two years down the road das the rockets head towards salary cap hell and Chris Paul continues to age.

Why on earth are we looking to lose depth while trying to contend?? We just saw the value having a deep bench provides these playoffs - why would you want to compromise that? Terrible trade for Boston

The Rockets are way over the cap and don’t have a trade exception.  They’d have to send about $4 million back in salary for this deal to work.

Boston isn’t rebuilding.

This. Why would they send out good players for a future pick when they're the favorites to win the East this season?

I don't like the proposed trade. Having said that, if we re-sign Smart it seems possible that we 'll end up trading Morris in order to avoid the tax.
