Yep, it's a roster flexibility move by Danny. Which is why I suspect that Yabu makes it on the roster, for the fact that his $3.1m contract is more useful than his, or Tacko's, 5 min of garbage time minutes.
I think Tacko is much better off in the G League where he can actually develop than just sit on the end of the bench night in night out.
