"I love Buddy. But I've loved him as sort of a late lottery pick," said one NBA general manager (who was watching from home). "If you draft him as a specialist, I think he's great value".
"He might turn into more than that given his work ethic. But if you draft him to be Steph Curry, I think you're going to be disappointed. I think the tournament may be overinflating his worth a bit."
"I hope today's game puts things in perspective," the GM continued. "When he's faced with the strength and athleticism and length of the defenders in this league, I think there are going to be some big adjustments for him."
Asked for Hield's ceiling, the same GM told me Ben Gordon. Asked for his floor? Jimmer Fredette.
sure re: this made up GM Ford is talking about
A smart GM does not base a major draft stock drop because of 1 game. And especially if that guy that carried Oklahoma to the final four. Think about that for a second. How many athletic, longer wingspan defenders did he face to get to yesterdays game? Syracuse is not the only team with good defenders in the league
Like someone else mentioned, Hield probably needed 2 more big games to really get GMs thinking of high he can go. As senior and all the critics watching him, he was not going to get a break.
Reading some posters perspective on Simmons, Ingram etc. there seems like there is no "sure" thing from this draft. No Karl Towns this year (or unknown). Heck someone from 10-20 could turn out to be the best from this draft. Like a Brice Johnson.
This is going to be a fun draft to see unfold on draft night and in a year or two
