Celtics had the talent on paper, but their chemistry was a glaring problem all year long.

I felt the Celtics could have beaten Milwaukee if they maintained composure all 5 games, played with a sense of urgency, and shared the ball effectively. But they didn't.

The Bucks’ best player was better than our best by a healthy margin, and their second best was better than our second best by a wide margin, too.

The answer to that isn’t to jettison our best player, it’s to improve our top-end talent, pushing Kyrie down to 1A.

They didn't even have Malcolm Brogdon for the first four games of the series and the C's couldn't take advantage of that  :(

Brogdon, or Smart, or whatever role player wasn’t the issue.

Giannis > Kyrie

Middleton > Tatum (or Brown or Hayward)

Some folks seem to think the answer to that fundamental problem is trading Kyrie. Those people don’t understand the NBA game.

How you beat the Bucks:

Davis = Giannis

Kyrie > Middleton

Strictly basketball wise...I agree completely.  And AD is the only player on the C's radar who can get us past Milwaukee next year.  So I guess that's what the C's are shooting for.  The only thing that could screw it up is a chemistry issue....malcontentism...etc.

For now I'm thinking the Billups/Hamilton Pistons over Shaq and Kobe are the best historical example of a team who overcame the one to one talent comparison....thing.  That was a true 5 man juggernaut.  Part of me would like to see the C's attempt such a thing with Steven's at the helm, all the while pursuing the best possible stars who can still be part of a group (5 man team concept).

Hayward never woke up.. Kyrie was easily contained.. It really just boiled down to those two because the rest of our team and the rest of theirs were rather cancelled each other out but Middleton and Giannis was jordan/pippen like the whole series.

I've always thought that if Utah Hayward showed up we will have a chance.. Its just unfortunate he really wasn't ready.

So just a fluke... last season playoffs doesnt count I guess

Why didnt Brown have a chance to do this, these playoffs?

Why was transition basketball missing this time around?
Nope.  Doesn't make a lick of difference.   We were playing a 44 win 7th seed with a interim coach.  Bit different than playing a 60 win juggernaut built around an MVP.

That said, it's fair to point out that it took us 7 games to knock off that 44 win team... and had Rozier not dropped 26, 9 and 6 in Game 7, we probably lose in the first round and nobody bats an eye at this mediocre roster winning 49 and losing in the 2nd round the next year.

Yup, our loss was clean as a whistle.

In 2014, the 51 win Warriors lost in the 1st round in 7 games to the Clippers.

The next year, the Warriors won 67 games and the championship.

We gonna blame Chris Paul for this?

Stop only focusing on the Bucks

Brown and Tatum are dammn good players that took a backseat

If Celts played properly and didnt lose 10 games to crappy teams... then will that change your mind?

Celts didnt build their "mentality"

All that was built the past few seasons...poof gone

You going to blame that on how good the Bucks were?

Fwiw, I think they can be much better long-term with whatever team they end up with.

Yes, everyone would think differently of the team if they had won 10 more games.

...because they would have had to be a different (more cohesive) team to do so

(and no, we are not some exception when it comes to losing to bad teams.  The 60-win Bucks had nearly as many losses to non-playoff teams (8 vs 10). Unlike the Bucks, though, we sucked against playoff teams, with a sub-.500 record)
I'm bitter.

What exactly do you think was built these past few seasons?  Couldn't have been much if poof it was gone after one season.  I'd suggest nothing really gets built until you have your star player(s) established.

Talent alone rarely wins championships. Especially egocentric talent. There's no mystery why the Bucks eliminated us so easily. They play as a team, both offensively and defensively. The 18 - 19 Celtics didn't remotely resemble a team... just a collection of individuals. I strongly believe that the Celts will be a markedly better team next year without Irving, regardless of whether they get AD. I am looking forward to next season, as I predict there's only a 10% chance Irving signs with the Celtics. Also, I believe Danny will be crazy to give up both Brown and Tatum for AD.

Yes and yes

Need a team that will play for one another
