The Bulls have decided to match Sacramento's $78M offer sheet to Zach LaVine, league sources tell ESPN.

Yikes!!!  So many stupid GMs in the league.
lol this is great

Kings miss out on a good player which is good for us. I know the contract was terrible but I'm only worried about the pick

I’m more worried about them being dumb enough to offer Smart something similar. They aren’t done yet.

San Antonio Spurs restricted free agent Kyle Anderson has signed a four-year, $37.2 million offer sheet with the Memphis Grizzlies, league sources told ESPN.

That's a massive overpay too and for 4 years....

Two dumbest moves in free agency on the same transaction by two of the dumbest front offices in the NBA. LaVine's a one-trick pony and winning the slam dunk trophy is his trick.

I don’t think it’s a massive overpay if you think Anderson is a good fit for your roster, and you can definitely make that case that he’ll fit well in Memphis (if his contract is matched).  It may be an overpay (welcome to restricted free agency offer sheets).  It’s not going to be a franchise-altering contract either positively or negatively.

Seems high to me for a bench role player. It's not Evan Turner money but it's seems the Griz are just throwing there money around and if that's the contract that puts you over the cap, it doesn't seem worth it. Maybe massive overpay is a bit much, i'll settle for overpay.

So, once Chicago matches, does Sactown make a ridiculous offer to Smart?

I don’t think Chicago matches that.
don't they almost have to. Otherwise the Butler trade looks awful. They also were looking at signing him at 16 million a year so another 4 isn't a ton.

Not really. Markkanen looks like a keeper — you don’t need to match bad contracts just because you trade for him.  It does give OKC two days to negotiate with Chicago for a Melo salary dump, as if Chicago matches, that trading partner is gone.
as I said. Matched. I just couldn't see them not matching given what they were going to reportedly give him.  Sacto probably knew it as well

Before he got hurt, Lavine shot 52% from 2, 39% from 3 and 84% from the line scoring 19 a game on just 15 shots.  I'd say he does more than dunk.

The real question is did his injury change his game as he wasn't very good in his limited action last year (which isn't surprising but would still give me pause)

I'd think they'd make an offer on Parker first.

That’s a pretty good deal. Hope to see Smart resigned on something similar.

Yeah, I mean it seems the market has been set for that level of player. Smart is right around that 11/12 per year range, I think.

I hope he comes to his senses and takes a deal around those numbers. While there might be more money next summer, there’s no guarantee he even gets the same type of deal from a team, and that’s not even factoring in his playing style, which isn’t necessarily conducive to longevity.

It’s best for both him and the team to come to an agreement on some sort of deal around those numbers. I’d hate to see him screw himself over by suffering a major injury this year and never get that type of money offer again.

You could also say he's mediocre offensively and awful defensively. His best offensive year was 2016-17 with a mediocre 14.6 PER and he only matched that this year by jacking his usage up to a hair under 30%. On the other side of the ball, his Real Defensive +/- has been in the bottom 20% of the league every year. He sure can dunk though.
