If you do not have a legal roster by auctions end, you will have a $5 FAAB fine, and/or have a farmed player (if available) activated to make your roster legal.

You have to farm team Griffin, at least temporarily - you have 16 players and he's your only rookie.  Pretty sure you can immediately promote him and drop a guy once the auction's over though. 

CBS has a thing where you can look at free agents ranked by projected points.  Check out their page.
