Question. This may have already been asked somewhere but i was wondering when the deadline is to specify farm players and also do the farm players count towards your minimum of 15 players?   For example: Say I have 15 guys I am at the 250 cap and I want to farm 3, will I have to pick up 3 more players to meet the 15 players requirement (although I would not be able to pick any more up because I know I am at the cap thus I could not farm those 3 players) Thanks!!

I haven't set a deadline for farming players, but I'm thinking it will be  24 hours of the auction ends.  This will give us a short window before free agency starts.

Once free agency starts the cap goes out the window. We need to have FARM designation before then.  Even if you end up scooping a rookie up as a free agent you will no longer be able to declare them as part of your Farm roster.

In future seasons this will be a lot easier to follow (and there will be a lot less farmable player) once we implement the College Draft for the first time.  This year we're combining the rookies as part of the auction, so once the auction ends.  Farm time ends.

As for the roster slots, if you use any rookies as part of your 15 player mandatory roster you will not be able to farm them.  If you're hoping to farm some guys, you need to figure on filling those spots, and that needs to be done through the auction.  Even if you are planning on dumping guys immediately following the auction to replace them with free agents, you must walk out of the auction with a full, legal roster.

If you play around on the CBS roster page you can see what you need to do to get your roster legal.

Hope that helps

Yup

Once free agency starts the cap goes out the window.

Could you elaborate a little more on this, because I’m not really clear.  I get this from the first page of the thread, but not really sure how it all plays out:

Quote
ADD/DROPS
We will be using CBS FAAB System (free agent auction bidding). Each team will start the season with $100 (plus any unused cap money from the Annual Auction) in FAAB auction money to bid on players. Minimum bid is $1. Tied bids are broken by reverse standings (standings are only updated for this purpose on a weekly basis). The tiebreaker list is posted on the add/drop page.

So after this auction, we all get $100 plus whatever we have left over from this auction to bid on free agents, but we all have to leave the auction with a 15 man roster.  So if I finish the auction spending my whole $250, I need to drop a player (or do a 2-for-1 trade) to pick a new player up right?  So I drop a $1 player, can I theoretically bid my whole $100 on a free agent, bringing my total player salaries up to $349?

If I drop a player, do I earn back his salary?  In the situation above, I have $100 to spend and I drop a $1 player, do I now have $101 to spend?

Also, does the cap effect trades?  If my player salaries equal $250, could I trade a $1 player to Mean Green for LeBron at $80 (assuming I don’t make any other moves)?

Perfect. Thanks for the explanation.

Nope.  Nowhere near that complicated!  Once the auction is over you can go as far over the cap as you like.

The part about adding leftover auction money to the FAAB budgets makes it seem that the two currencies re more related then they are, but they're really not at all.  The FAAB has no bearing on player salaries.  It is merely a way of bidding on free agents within a set budget.  Players attained through the FAAB will have either a $5 / 2 yr contract for players with no previously existing contract from the current season, or they will have an existing contract from before they were cut (I used the example a while back of someone cutting Lebron.  If you were to win him with a $2 FAAB bid, his contract would still be $80/2).

The point of adding unused cap space from the auction was to the throw a bone to owners who left some money at the table.

Hope that helps.

As I keep saying, this will all be clearer once we get cracking.

Day 26 IPOs listed.  I'm going to start tacking a few more players from Day's 31-33 so we can wrap this thing up sooner and have some extra time for free agents and trading before the season starts.  I'll work from the bottom of the lists up.

I think this is a really good idea, but could you post the updated auction schedule?  With roster and cap space getting tight, the order that guys wlll be listed in could affect my bidding strategy.
