I'm pretty happy with Rose - even at that price.  But yeh, I was totally aware of the over inflated early prices, and yet I was powerless to resist bidding!

You're confusing the pre-season auction (what we're doing now) with the Free Agent Auction (FAAB) during the season.  The FAAB system keeps cut guys at their established salaries for the duration of the season regardless of the amount bid for them.  Free agents who are previously unsigned are defaulted at $5/2 year contracts.
