I think Wesley Johnson has lasted the longest of anyone so far.  Wasn't he on day 1 or 2?

Yeah, he was on day 2 and always gets bid on right before he falls off the list.  I'm shocked that two rookies not named John Wall are going for $17.  Cousins looked awesome in Summer league at times so I understand how he got that high, but Wesley Johnson?  Theres still 25 days of bidding left & all the money dropped on the rookies has me scratching my head.

I've been comparing them to the rookie scale that'll be used in all the following seasons - $20 for #1 and $1 less for every spot below it.  Cousins was #3, so his "standard" salary is $18.  Derrick Favors would be $17, but he went for $19.  Johnson would be $16, so he's barely over that now.

Plus people want to lock them in to relatively low salaries - if DeMarcus Cousins starts putting up huge numbers in the next couple of seasons, he'd be a great bargain even with $5 added to his salary each year.  If not, he takes up less than 10% of the cap and sooner or later gets cut.  Fairly low risk, high potential reward.

Probably most importantly though, I'm a huge Cuse fan  ;)

True. indeed.  And as I've said before, in the future, drafted rookies will become super valuable (at least the good ones) becasuse of their low salarty & the flexibility they offer.  Also, in future years their salaries will not count towards the auction cap - unless you want them to take up an active slot immediately (but we'll discuss all of this next year)

Also, on the rookies for this eason , at some point everyone will have to declare whether they want their rookies on the Farm roster or active roster.

More on this soon too.

ps - I found me a computer!

A winner is someone who recognizes his God-given talents, works his tail off to develop them into skills, and uses these skills to accomplish his goals.

Wait, so even rookies we draft can be put on the farm team?  Didn't realize that.  I assume we'd then fill their roster spot using our free agent $?  How many spots are there on our farm squads?

there are no limitations on the amount of farm players (or guys on injured reserve once the season starts)

You do need to fill the 15 active/reserve spots though.

Question on trades.  Hypothetically could I trade someone by overpaying for another player. For example I drafted Lebron with 80.  Someone else drafts Kobe at 80 too.  Can I trade Lebron with at a 70 cap since that might be more favorable and take a bump up Kobe to 90. I assume a contract is a contract but had to check...Thanks!

Nope.  You can't "pick up" portions of contracts.

I had a whole long answer typed out that got munched.

I'll try to touch on some of the usual in season dynamics of salaries and trading soon.

You're right.  I was hoping to grab cousins, Turner or Monroe for less than $10 this year, but too many people are hip to them so that is definitely not in the cards in this draft.  I was unwilling to bid to much more than that in case they don't turn out.

Sorry couple more questions...We can trade during the draft right?  So as long as someone has cap space could I trade Lebron at 80 and some other stud at 20 (total 100) for one player at 60 assuming that person has cap room.   Thanks again!

yes, that's fine...as long as both teams stay under the cap, and don't exceed roster limits trading season is open.
