At what point does the NBA step in. The Lakers is a cornerstone organization for the NBA, it is a billion dollar enterprise. Why would you have Magic Johnson and Jeanie Buss running a billion dollar organization. This was NEVER going to work.
It is tiring to see people disrespect folks that have paid their dues to acquire expertise at certain jobs and to just think they can do those jobs because they were good at other things. Why did Magic think he could run a basketball franchise? He had no clue what the rules were or anything about salary cap or how to build a team. That is why his strategy was to just get name players. He reminds me of the idiot owner of the Redskins who thought he could just buy players like Bruce Smith, Deion Sanders, etc to win a championship. About 20 years have gone by and he is still searching for his assets when it comes to winning football.
At what point does the NBA step in to save the Lakers from a fumbling ownership.
Unless the owners are openly racist, the NBA will never step in to save an NBA franchise from poor ownership or management. If the NBA hasn't stepped in to save the Knicks horrid ownership and management, they aren't going to step in to save any other franchise.
And they shouldn't.
The Celtics are great because of excellent ownership, management and coaching. The Spurs are the same. The Warriors as well. They got that way through intelligence, a great work ethic, the ability to identify great coaching and playing talent and the ability to create a great environment so that the coaching and playing talent can succeed.
Any team can do that if they have a smart owner, a good owner. The league has no reason to protect franchises from clueless owners or management teams.
