Title: Not Officially Panicking (UPDATE: Okay, Now I Kind Of Am...)
Post by: Phantom255x on May 20, 2018, 11:37:45 AM
But yeah, if we come out and lose Game 4 in pathetic fashion again, I'll start to really panic.

Hate to say it, but even the optimist in me has more confidence in Cleveland stealing a game @Boston than of Boston stealing a game @Cleveland. Call it the "Lebron Effect", but that's how I feel. I mean, road games are never easy, but it's not like their crowd is a hostile environment either (felt like they were playing in a library much of yesterday to be honest). Just stick to the game plan and we escape with a win on Monday night.

Last night's game was truly awful though. I had predicted Cleveland would win a desperation Game 3, but boy I didn't think they'd win by 30 points. Hell, it never even seemed like Boston went on any kind of run yesterday, which is baffling.

Anyways, Cleveland did what they had to, and did what many expected (I mean, if CLE were to win a game this series, it almost had to be Game 3), now it's our turn.

That said, the C's will have A TON of adjustments to make before Game 4, or it could be ugly again. It would be one thing to lose a close hard-fought game yesterday, but losing in that fashion just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I hope CBS is ripping into this team.

Also, have to PRAY we don't get Fosters/Brothers Monday (though I unfortunately think we will).

Lets see how Game 4 plays out, and go from there. GO C'S!!  8)

(I'll probably be out most of today, so if I'm not around much today, enjoy your Sundays y'all! Also think we all definitely need a small break after last night's horror show lol.)

to soon to panic.  Let's see how they play tonight and in game 5.

if they lay another egg tonight, there's some real issues Brad had better figure out with this team.  (if they win, well, no worries)

if they don't play at the top of their game in game 5 regardless of what they do in game 4, then worry.  That's the game they either need to put Cleveland away (being up 3-1) or ensure a game 7 at home (series tied 2-2).

Panic?  Worry?  Makes no sense, we are playing with house money.  They can lose tonight and even Game 5 and I'm not going to panic, just be a bit disappointed.

Agreed.  It feels like the Celts can't afford to lose a game at home in this series.

Panic is too strong of a word.  You best believe if we lose tonight this will be at best, a pick 'em series.  But I would not say we're in danger just yet.

Until the Celtics lose a home game, I feel no panic.

Plus, this team isn't suppose to be here.   No Irving.   No Hayward.

Just unbelievable experience for the young Celtics.

No panic.   Team is playing with house money.

Yeah I'll freak out once the C's lose a home game.

Overall I'm just proud of this team and what they've done. I want the Finals trip too, but this season started out so badly and this team was been amazing all the way from when they almost won that night till the end.

I think losing at home would cause some concern...esp if the series is 3-2 Cleveland going into game 6 on the road.

Hold serve at home...esp in game 5

Yeah same. And honestly, I hate to sound pessimistic and I am looking way ahead, but even if we made the Finals, Golden State is going to overwhelm us anyways, so even if we lose this series, we can enjoy watching Lebron get swept  :P #BrightSpot

this is how good LeBron is.  We're up 2-1, have home court advantage and the feeling is "Ok, we still have a fighting chance."

The dynamic with this series is, the Celtics are underdogs and Cleveland is "supposed to win."

Relax and have fun while "old Cavs" stumble around trying to prop up their kingdom.

No time to panic. I was under no delusion that the Celtics were going to sweep Cleveland. I do expect a competitive game tonight, where the Celtics give themselves a chance to win. The road playoff games are clearly showing that the Celtics miss Kyrie Irving.

Let's also not forget, the Celtics don't have to win a road game in this round. They just can't lose a home game.

This is all house money at this point. Even if we didn't win another game I'd be disappointed but I don't think I'd ever panic. There's nothing to blow when we've already overachieved.

That said let's just take care of business tonight and we can all relax a bit more.  :)

At this point, I care more about LeBron not making yet another Finals despite a completely dysfunctional, garbage supporting cast than I do about the Celts making it to the Finals.

I'm just sick of a C+/B- (at best) being good enough for a LeBron team to make it to the Finals year after year.  I want things like coaching, defense, quality team construction etc to matter.

With that said, even if the Celts get swept in the Finals, I have to think that making the Finals would mean a lot for the development of Tatum and Brown.

I also think that making the Finals with this team, beating LeBron on the way, would in a way put a bow on Al Horford's career and solidify him as a genuinely great player and one of the most underrated guys in the league over his career.  I want that for him.

Living in Ohio, I really want to see the Cavs fans scatter like rats at the hands of the Celtics.

Knowing LBJ is not coming back AND that the undermanned Celtics finished them would be about as good as it gets

Getting the finals is gravy and experience for this group before they become whole again.

Not sure what is there is to panic over. Remember the old adage: "A series doesn't begin until a road team wins." You don't have to win an away game to win a title. Heck, the 2008 Celtics won a title being 3-9 on the road.

The Celtics are playing with house money. After the Hayward injury, people in the media figured Boston dropped off to a low seed playoff team. They made it to the 2nd seed. After Kyrie went down those same people have had Boston as the underdog in 2 series they won and this one, a series they started 2-0.

The Cs could lose the next three and I will still be happy and proud of what this team did this year and look forward to being a Finals contender next year with health. Will I be disappointed? Sure but not like I would if this team was considered a title favorite or contender like I was with last year's Patriots or the 2003 Red Sox. The future is ridiculously bright.

As for tonight, I think we see the first "game" of the series. Don't know who will win but expect a hard fought, close game.

There is absolutely nothing in here that doesn't make perfect sense to me rationally. You are  completely correct.

Panic, however, is an emotion. That and unlimited access to the internet is a dangerous combination.

I expect a loss tonight, at which point I will probably put another series bet on the Celtics, after putting some cash on them before the series started at +260.  If they win tonight I'll miss the chance to lay down another bet, but I'd be much happier with the W.

So unfortunately, I expect defeat.  But at least in defeat, there might be opportunity.

I really do hate to admit this but I really think the C's will not win another game. Not that we won't come close, its just that we do not have an established Alpha BB player that can take the game over. We have GREAT parts in Tatum, Brown, Rozier and Al, but they just don't stack up to LBJ and I, we, have to admit that fact. I will be pulling for the C's tonight, but I'm not gonna expect a W. I think Tristan Thompson, is just that one player, who the C's/Brad Stevens can't quite put a box on. Whenever he's in the game, our players seem to play different.
MY PREDICTION:
I think Game 4 will go to the Cavs, game 5 will be close at home, but LBJ will be a monster with a triple double and supporting cast showing up, Game 6 will be a close game in the first quarter, but LBJ will put us away in Q2, his cast in Q3 and it will get ugly in Q4.

Well, it's a whole new series, but I'm still pretty encouraged by the C's effort tonight. Despite falling behind 19, they stayed within distance all game and didn't get annihilated. Unfortunately they just shot themselves in the foot way too many times. But they were still in it most of the game, and had a few 50/50 balls and easy dunks gone in, it's probably a different outcome.

We definitely look like a better team at home and as long as we stick to the game plan, we can take Game 5! Lebron had 40+ points tonight, but we also allowed Korver, Nance and Thompson to just kill us.

My biggest concern is that our defense suddenly looked garbage the last two games.

Even in Games 1 and 2, we had stretches where we couldn't score, but we defended real well and didn't let CLE go on a huge run themselves.

But on the road, they were letting CLE answer every one of their (Celtics) shots, and felt like we saw a lot more guys wide open than we did in Games 1 and 2 COMBINED. Yikes...

I have to believe with an older team playing every other day including uh doing traveling, this is when the youth can have an advantage.

Celtics in 6. I still believe we are the better team. We missed 3-4 dunks tonights.

We blew at least 10 layups, countless defensive assignments, and threw the ball away a lot. Still, we battled until the end and made them work. If we didn't lose our composure with a few bad calls every time we got close, we could have made it a game at the end. It will take its toll on them like you said, we can still take this.

Hopefully our young guys learned something from this Cleveland trip and will play with more poise going forward.

Yup, it's time to book this series over. You can't let this LeBron Cavaliers team to claw back up from 0-2.

Momentum is on their end, and LBJ about to explode for 50 points in Game 5. I can see the Cavs winning two more. The Celtics did not play with a sense of urgency tonight.

We're not supposed to be here.  Our two best players are injured.  We were supposed to be gone two rounds ago.  Geez, we're playing with house money. And with Kyrie and Gordon, this series is over.  I'm grinning from ear to ear.  We're a powerhouse juggernaut in the making.  Whatever happens, happens.

Put Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward on this team, we're waltzing to the Finals, and legitimately competing for the title.

Kyrie 26
Hayward 28
Smart 24
Brown 21
Tatum 20

We're gold. No matter how this season ends, we are gold.

In Games 3 and 4, three pointers by Tatum, Rozier, Morris, Brown, Smart, Baynes:

12 for 39 ... 30.77%

In Games 3 and 4, three pointers by Love, Hill, Smith, Korver, Green, Clarkson

21-49 ... 42.86%

Who believes this trend will continue in Games 5 and (potentially) 7, and who thinks this is a home/away split thing?

LeBron has been amazing and both teams at various times have made great plays and huge errors.

With that said, it really is as simple as: Who is hitting shots?

The team whose supporting cast is hitting outside shots has been in almost total control of each game in the series, and so far home court has determined which team that is.

Who's going to perform the surgery? Lebron already tried that in games 1 and 2 and it didn't work out for them.

They gave game 4 away, the Cavs had one good qtr and we did our part to seal the win by missing a ton of close shots.

Who's going to perform the surgery? Lebron already tried that in games 1 and 2 and it didn't work out for them.

They gave game 4 away, the Cavs had one good qtr and we did our part to seal the win by missing a ton of close shots.

James...much like game 2.

It's time to hit the panic button.

Game 7. Against the greatest player in the world. At the Garden.

What a nauseous feeling.

Boston's 2-0 series lead streak is now in danger.

NBA's Game 5 winners winning series 82% of the time is now being put to the test.

INTENSITY.

These young guns got all the playoff experience they could handle didn’t they? lol I forget how far they’ve come this year. Just play free guys. 1 game to go to the Finals at home. Everyone would take that before the season.

Not worried about energy and effort. Tonight they were doomed by the second quarter. They had a chance but did not box out.

Win the rebounding battle and you win the game. Love does not play that means Green starts and that is a win for the Cs.

A series doesn't begin until the road team wins. Lets make sure this series never started.
