Just watched Burn After Reading for the first time. This is the Cohen brothers best work in my opinion. 8.7/10. Highly recommend.

recently seen:
- Aquaman -- good movie.  CGI was something and the storyline wasn't too bad.  one downside that my wife and I agreed on was that there was too much crammed into it.  2 villains (and more or less separate storylines with a little crossover) that should have been separate films.   Could have used a bit better dialogue and humor from Momoa -- He's got more to offer than what they used.   worth seeing if you like superhero movies.

- Crazy Rich Asians -- better than expected but since I was expecting a pretty bad/stupid movie, it was a low bar to surpass.

- Daddy's Home 2 -- bad but still had a couple of moments of humor.  had a lot of difficulty not cringing when Mel Gibson was on screen knowing the issues surrounding him the past decade or so.

We're trying to bang out some Oscar movies:

The Favourite: Great. The 3 leads are all incredible. It's dark and weird and funny. Its definitely not for everyone but I thought it was brilliant. The finale is a little more esoteric than I like but it still works and everything that leads up to it is just so great.

Roma: I'd bet on this for a cinematography Oscar. It's gorgeous. Even the opening credit sequence, which is a still shot of a window reflected in mop water, is gorgeous. Cuaron is one of the best directors out there. He can do anything. It's a black-and-white movie in Spanish, so this one isn't for everyone either, but it's a lovely story, beautifully told.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs

An anthology movie about the old West. Some of the stories are hilarious. Most are pretty bleak and some are downright gut-wrenching. It's an incredibly good looking movie and maybe should've been nominated for cinematogrphy. If you like looking at gorgeous photos of the wild West and don't mind some bleak stories, definitely recommended.

My favorite of the six stories was probably the Tom Waits story, which is also one of the most hopeful.

I loved that movie.  One of my favorites of 2018.

Yeah. Definitely not a movie for everyone so I get why is wasn't more heralded this year but, darn, is that a well made movie.

Finally saw Into The Spider-Verse.

What a great, fun movie. It took me a minute to get used to the animation but it's a remarkable thing to look at and has a lot of heart. One of the best movies of the year, for sure.

Took the kid to see Lego Movie 2, words cannot express how bad it is. When it ended, he looked at me and said "well, that got weird..." (he's 10).

Loved the first one too

Bad Samaritan – A pair of young valet drivers take turns robbing their customer’s homes, until one of them breaks into the wrong house. The man who’s house was broken into, is relentless in taking revenge, especially when it comes to protecting his secret. Recommended.

Fractured – A couple travels to the countryside to a remote home, where someone is lurking around. There is a great twist that I won’t give away. Recommended.

Finally got  Venom from the library. It was much better than I expected and I might even plan on buying it later on.

Definitely worth a watch if you like superhero/comic book movies

Widows- it was solid but overrated IMO. I love anything Viola is in so I'd watch it again just because of her skills. Going in I was ready to be wowed and was letdown. It wasn't bad though, had a part or 2 where I screamed "ha got em!"
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Await Further Instructions.  Horror movie about media influence and paranoia.  Interesting concept but it starts off being too on the nose then in the third act decides that's too subtle and rips the nose off and starts beating you over the head with it.  If you can't get enough Walder Frey or laughing at dumb character choices it could be worth a watch.

Watched Three Identical Strangers this weekend.

The less you know going in, the better.

Fascinating and definitely thought-provoking.
