Finally !!

Kevin Garnett's impact on the Celtics franchise is still present in today's team. He is the guy that pulled us out of the Len Bias/Reggie Lewis lost in the wilderness depression. He returned Celtic Pride back to Boston. He brought work ethic, competitive intensity and championship focus back to the franchise that invented those team values. He loved being a Celtic.
The Four Celtic Generals:
Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett

The Four Celtic Lieutenants:
Cousy - Havlicek - McHale - Pierce

Well deserved.

KG was an entire culture shift back to the winning championship mentality.

He was a fantastic player and personality who really brought the winning attitude back to Boston and more importantly a championship ring.

Dude hadn't even been in BOS a year yet and he BREATHES Boston....like he was DESTINED to come here.

A modern day Rocky Balboa...especially when he was walking around the city.

Only fans of other teams will say that Ray had the same impact as KG.

Don't worry, I'm sure Miami will retire his number, since he seems to love it there so much.

I'm torn on this, I really enjoyed KG's time with the Celtics and am impartial if his number should be retired.

I think the Celtics just have so many numbers retired from years past that should not be up there and that's why I feel they need to be more selective going forward.

Take Reggie Lewis for example, he is one of the few absolutes IMO that should be retired. Him, Russell, Bird, Heinsohn, Pierce are all no brainers for me.. but people were ready to take it down to get KD a few years ago. How many more time will we be at risk of similar scenarios for years to come? There are only so many desirable numbers to go around.

do you really worry about getting a player whose favorite number may already be retired and be too petty to come here because he can't bear to wear a different number instead of a player who'd see this organization holds its great players in high regards and honors them for their commitment to the C's so has no problem taking a number that's available?
