Game Notes

The Celtics and Pistons square off for the 4th and final time this season as the Celtics travel to Detroit.  The Pistons are up 2-1 on the Celtics with the Celtics win coming in their last meeting in Boston.  Detroit has won 5 consecutive games at home vs the Celtics.

Both teams are playing in the second of back to back games and both teams had to travel overnight.  The Celtics have lost 7 straight and are 1-9 in their last 10 games while the Pistons have lost their last 2 games and are 2-8 in their last 10 games.  The Pistons are 16-23 at home while the Celtics are 8-29 on the road.

The Celtics will be without their starting back court as Rajon Rondo will be sitting out the back to back game for rest while Avery Bradley is dealing with an Achilles injury.   They will also be without Kris Humphries, who is dealing with tendinitis in his knee.   At first I guessed that Pressey would start at PG but I'm thinking that Bayless will start at the point and Chris Johnson at the 2 so that they have a point guard to come off the bench.  Jared Sullinger will probably step into the starting center spot.  Those are just guesses.

Key Matchups
 (http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/jeff_green.png)vs(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/josh_smith.png)
Jeff Green vs Josh Smith
It's about time for Jeff Green to have a big game and he'll need it against Josh Smith who is averaging 16.5 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/kris_humphries.png)vs(http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.element/img/2.0/sect/statscube/players/large/andre_drummond.png)
Kris Humphries vs Andre Drummond
Drummond is a beast and will be a challenge for the Celtics to contain. He is 1st in offensive rebounds, 3rd in the league in total rebounds, and 2nd in the league in double doubles. He is averaging 13.0 points and 12.8 rebounds. The size of the Pistons front court will give the Celtics problems.

Keys to the Game

Run, Run, Run - The Celtics have proved that when they run and move the ball up the court quickly, good things happen. They can't lapse into walking the ball up, playing half court and depending on iso's for scoring. When they over dribble and slow the game down, they struggle all the way around.

Be Aggressive
- The Celtics need to be aggressive in going for loose balls, rebounding and defending. They also have to be aggressive in going to the basket and not settle for jumpers. Good things happen when they get inside. They have to be hungry and play like the team that wants it more. They haven't done that in their last 2 games.

Rebound - Rebounding takes effort and desire. The Celtics will need both in order to beat the big front line of the Pistons to the rebounds. The Pistons are 1st in the league in offensive rebounds with 14.5 per game and so the Celtics will have to work extra hard to beat them to the boards.

Defense- The Celtics need to play tough team defense, especially in the paint. The Pistons are 1st in the league in points in the paint with an impressive 52.8 points per game. The Celtics will have to work extra hard to keep them out of the paint and take them out of their game.   The Celtics have to especially clamp down on defense at the end of games when they tend to allow teams to get easy baskets.

Limit Turnovers
- The Celtics turned the ball over 22 times against the Sixers. They won't win many games with that many turnovers. They need to take better care of the ball as the Pistons will convert those turnovers into points.

X-Factors
Pride and Fatigue
I keep waiting for the Celtic Pride to kick in and give the Celtics that extra boost to help them get the win.  Will it be there in this game?  Also both teams played in back to back games and fatigue may become a factor.  Which team will be able to play through the fatigue for the win?

Only two games in front of Orlando with 6 to play.  We're not even sure to have the 4th worst record, but we have an outside chance to catch the Magic.

Orlando plays a T'Wolves team that played a double OT game last night.
The roster that the Chelmsford YMCA Celtics will be playing tonight is an affront to the traditional short-staffed roster.

Here's to hoping...

No Hump to slow down the three bigs of Detroit, they may have 40 points in the paint by halftime.
No Rondo or Avery either.

Could get ugly.

Team playing better without Rondo starting. I actually enjoy watching this team play on the court. The ball actually flows on the offensive end and opposing pg's don't get to kill us at will at the defensive end

we stink more. And yesterday we lost to the 76rs

We are a horrible team with Rondo starting this year. Even Jhog has helped us win more games

There a terrible team without Rondo and Rondo dominated the Pistons last time they met. By the way they lost to the sixers with Jordan Crawford starting and beat them when Rondo came back.

not a big fan of the way he passes. He makes you work hard to try to get open and then he will pass you the ball. Or he tries to drag in multiple defenders before dropping off the ball . I don't have a problem with him making these passes. But that's all he seems to do

When was the last time you saw him make quick decisions and bullet some passes like Sully just did?  Drive and kick out bullet passes for open three point shots??   PNR bounce passes? PNR passes to the man cutting to the basket even?

To me he is not really a pure pg.  He is a pg that has learned to pass and does his own thing. And imo it is killing the offensive flow. Nobody else gets to pass

Early in the game Mike or PJ said that "if Andre Drummond looked distracted tonight it would be because his UConn Huskies are playing in the final four."

I want to know; Are the Huskies in the Final Four every time I see the Pistons play?  I can't deny the kid's immense talents, but he always kind of looks like that to me.

Just keep banging that drum...
Players like rondo are few and far between, we will be wandering in the  desert for a long time if he is dealt and I don't want to hear you say "what this team needs is a pass first point guard" or " we need someone to step up in big games" or " we need a leader with championship experience".
Keep banging your drum, but if you get your wish don't say any of those things

Without him we have been winning (since he went down lasst season). Regular season or not, it matters. You have to win in the regular season first to get into the playoffs

Do you remember with Rondo starting how many games we lost last season? how many games we lost in a row? The first game after he was out, we won. We actually went on a a little streak. And made the playoffs.  We lost in the 1st round but we still made it

No indication we would of made even the playoffs if Rondo didn't get injured. I mean seriously how many games did we lose.

what factors are those?? The main one was Rondo went down and the flow on the offensive end was better and AB/LEe provided excellent defense. They actualy stayed in front of their man instead of playing shady defense.

so much for the brought up "better without rondo" argument...

nope. Much better team than the one that played last night.  We are playing with more energy on both ends. Sharing the ball more. It will be close. I predict we will close it out

what a tip in by pressey.  If he can hit that open jump shot on a consistent basis , he has a long future as a backup in this league. So quick and great motor

Yeah lol. Stupid shot.

First time watching the Pistons this year. Strange that Jennings, smith, and Monroe sat for most the 4th.

Still a very good game. Stevens will be happy with a much better effort tonight.

Pretty decent night so far for the draft.  Chicago wins.  Toronto has come back v. Milwaukee and hopefully will take that one.  Sixers almost pull off a win against Brooklyn -- would have been nice.  Magic win -- putting them only one game ahead for the 3rd slot...  Unfortunately, the Magic likely won't win another game.

Pressey is such a better defender than Rondo right now. makes a big difference

So you would rather have Pressey than Rondo now?  smh

Pressey has about 1 good game in 10.  For the other games he can't hit the side of a barn.  He has shot 50% or better only 12 times the whole year out of 69.  He is undersized, and turns the ball over a lot and isn't a good rebounder.

He does bring effort and speed.  I like his effort, but cmon.

He is an undrafted rookie who gets 14 mins a game and there is no telling if he is going to play from one night to the next. He can't shoot to save a life (you're correct) but other than that he plays well a lot. Not eye popping but he has done well this season. He gets 3 assists, turns it over once, and a steal a game. I don't call that turning it over a lot. He is undersized (again you are right). He isn't a good rebounder but he is a PG, if you don't know, they don't grab many... as an example Lillard plays 36mins a game and gets 3.5rbs, I think the league leader for PGs grabs 5 of them (everyone else grabs 4 or less and they get way more mins ), Pressey only snags 1 in 14mins.
