He was probably one of or maybe our main target last trade deadline. So...

Now we have TPE, he signed on a deal wich is not cheap and he isn't good at all this first few matches. As Washington may go into full tank mode at some time (feb/march), that we arn't in a hurry and can take time to evaluate the progress of Grant, Ojeleye until then... Why not trying to go after him for a first and a not so promising young (Waters or Edwards for example) ? He could be a cheap option (much easyest target than Gordon) and would fit with our needs (PF, scoring from the bench, spacing with elite pointer). Isn't it him the most probable guy to sign with us at deadline or a bit before ?

Washington : Waters + Boston 2021 first round pick + eventually a second round draft pick
Boston : Bertans

They just signed him for four years. They aren’t trading him this trade deadline.

I guess they can trade him after 3 month no? If they fall in a full rebuild option they may sell all their vets and go in youth mode building around Hachimura, Bryant, Avidja and all the picks or young they can have for Beal,Westbrook and Bertans...

Best time to target anyone may be at trade deadline. Have to see how the new additions work and if Walker is good. Can't see a good target till things shake out. Even then we might only see an IT last second bargain trade.

Oh come on, why wouldn't they sell low on a player that they obviously like?
I'm bitter.

I don't know at all but I guess they will keep all their promising youth. With Avidja, Hachimura, Bongo they have promising wings and with Bryant and Wagner potenital in bigs. So I guess if they see something in Waters or Edwards and they can still hope a reach with our first round pick even if it will be a 25+ pick, they would do it. But...
All this deal depends on what will be Beal (and Westbrook) positions. But I think they won't be happy at their career stage to be in a tanking team.

Whatever Bertans could be a great changing as we are maybe closer than what we think to be a contender. If Jaylen has really crossed a step and Tatum come back at least at his post all star shape, if Kemba is correctly ealthy on PO, we may be there even this year. But we need a great 3 point shooter to space the game for our 3 all stars. And Bertans was one of the top 5 3 pointer last year. Nesmith shuldn't be this guy this year at least.
My only concern is that Bertans played under a contract year last year and his performances were much better than what he did in spurs and his begening of season is very cold. But we can wait and see if last year wasn't a fluke.

One could argue that Washingtons top six are BETTER than ours, and maybe they'll be looking to acquire JB or JT and the trade deadline. ;)

I don’t think one could argue that

Tatum
Brown
Kemba
Smart
Thompson or Theis
Teague or Pritchard

Vs.

Beal
Westbrook
Hachimura
Advija
Bertans
Bryant, Bonga, or Lopez

Boston's top 6 is way more complimentary and Washington's age curve is way off.

You could argue that if they are building around Beal and Westbrook they should trade at least 1 of Advija and Rui for a 3rd veteran.

Instead it feels like they are keeping the young talent around in case Beal demands a trade.

Now their in Limbo stuck between win now and the future.
