  • Let's Go Celtics!
It has been reported that Dallas and the Clippers are Horford's biggest suitors. If Dallas gets Kemba and the Clippers don't sign Kawhi (and thus are not interested in Horford) I could see Al back in Boston.
Possible!

This makes me think that Kawhi might have already told the Clippers he is coming. How else could they be as aggressive pursuing Horford to price Boston out of it?

I thought most people had Leonard leaning towards signing a 1+1 with Toronto?

i think he will ...he kinda owes them another year .  treated well, hero status , new friends ,  dream season.  I doubt signing with Doc or Lakers last year would have given him a ring .  He can always go to CA   smh

He's a free agent. He doesn't owe them anything. Kawhi will - and should - do whatever he wants.

Once free agency starts on Sunday, the Rockets are planning to recruit Jimmy Butler to push the Philadelphia 76ers for a sign-and-trade deal that would allow the All-Star forward to join James Harden and Chris Paul in Houston, league sources tell ESPN.

The Rockets don't have the salary-cap space to sign Butler, so they'd need the threat of the Sixers losing him for nothing to a team with the available room to motivate Philadelphia into a trade. The Rockets also would potentially need to make this a multiteam deal to satisfy the rules of base year compensation that would cover Butler's outgoing salary.

The Sixers plan to be aggressive in signing Butler to a new deal, sources said, and could blunt a Rockets push with a full five-year, $190 million offer at the start of free agency on Sunday night. The Sixers could offer Butler a four-year, $146.5M deal, too.

Butler would be eligible to sign a four-year, $140 million contract on the way to the Rockets, but Houston likely would need to include two of these players -- center Clint Capela, guard Eric Gordon and power forward P.J. Tucker -- to make the financial deal work, sources said.

The 76ers are facing a free agency that includes Butler, Tobias Harris and JJ Redick. They're expected to make a significant four- or five-year offer to keep Butler, whom they acquired in a trade with Minnesota for Dario Saric and Robert Covington in November.

The Rockets offered Minnesota four future first-round picks for Butler before the Timberwolves agreed to the trade with Philadelphia, league sources said.

In a potential trade with Houston, the 76ers could turn Butler into a large trade exception and redirect the Rockets assets to additional teams.

If the Sixers were to lose Butler in free agency -- and were in position to keep Harris and Redick -- it is possible they could simply want the payroll flexibility and dismiss the potential idea of a sign-and-trade scenario for Butler.

heck I might just do Capela and Gordon (plus a 1st or two) for Butler if I'm the Sixers. Re-sign Redick and Harris and they still have a top tier team in the East with a bit more depth and a really interesting front court.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2842780-nets-rumors-jimmy-butler-tobias-harris-not-being-targeted-for-max-contracts

Quote
If Kevin Durant doesn't want to join Kyrie Irving with the Brooklyn Nets, apparently the team isn't sold on giving huge contracts to the remainder of the free-agent crop.

"The idea of Kyrie as a solo act is not what this plan has been. It's been about getting that second star; it's about KD," ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski said Tuesday. "...that will be the question about not just will they still take Kyrie Irving without a second star but whether it's Tobias Harris, Jimmy Butler, let's go down the list of free agents. I don't think they want to max any of those players out. Tobias Harris? Perhaps. But could they get those guys at a lower number to keep some salary-cap flexibility?

"There's going to be a moment of truth if KD doesn't come and Kyrie says I'm ready to go. As an organization, it may not be what you intended but you say: 'You know what? We have a chance to improve this team dramatically, and we'll take on that second star who may not be of All-NBA caliber.'"

Harris and Butler are both expected to command max-level salaries, whether it's from another team or the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers acquired both players during the 2018-19 season and reportedly want to retain them on the open market.

The Nets are the favorite to land Irving, who appears to be a near-lock to leave the Boston Celtics in free agency. Brooklyn has positioned itself to have two max-level contract slots for Irving and another free agent, and the team is also the favorite to sign Durant, who could miss the 2019-20 season with an Achilles injury.

The Nets are also playing a precarious game with D'Angelo Russell, their All-Star guard who will be a restricted free agent. The overwhelming sentiment is that Brooklyn would renounce Russell if Irving commits. However, if the Nets have to make a decision between maxing Irving and another lesser player or keeping Russell at a friendlier number, it could be a conversation in the Nets front office.

Essentially, free agency is a bunch of interconnected dominoes that are going to fall into place in rapid succession come June 30.

Really does seem like it's KD/Kyrie or bust for them, though I suspect that they end up signing Kyrie regardless.

Will be hilarious when he goes there and has the exact same issues as he had here, highlighting him as the real chemistry issue. Will be super hilarious when he ends up going there by himself and becomes more first/second round fodder.

Whatever route we go - whether that's something like a Kemba/Dedmond or Davis route or an Adams/Rozier resigned route - I still put that Boston team over that Nets' team next year with either Kyrie alone or Kyrie with KD sitting out next year. I think both Brown and Tatum take major leaps next year with the increased touches and freedom they'll have in the offense. Hopefully Brad gets the team moving at a quicker pace again, as I think our team is built for that now.

Surely people aren't meaning playing them together, because there's no way in hell that works. I mean, it'd be a good 1/2 center punch for them, with Embiid starting and Capela off the bench, but there's no way in hell they can share the court. That kills their spacing even more, and neither of them can really guard out on the perimeter, let alone full time.

I don’t understand this concept at all. Is this to have capela as the most expensive backup center in the league?

Also I honestly had to chuckle at the concept of the spacing of a Simmons embiid capela lineup
