Cleveland giving up 135pts and losing to Atlanta. Pretenders.
Good, only a half-game behind CLE in the loss column. I don?t care much about The Cup.

I think Goldstar is referring to wednesday game that passed against Atl, not tomorrow?s Cup game.

Welp, the Cavs have come crashing back down to Earth as expected.

At some point you have to blame the performance on the court on the players on the court. Every loss is not the coach's fault and every win isn't because of the players.

So assuming the C's win against the Bulls the Hawks take East Group C by way of winning the head to head tie breaker. That means in order for the c's to make the cup tournament they'd have to finish with the bets point differential of any team that finishes 3-1. The c's currently have a point of +14.

The four teams that are in it are:

Knicks (+15) and Magic (+37, play BKN tonight). Knicks and Magic will play Tuesday to decide who wins Group A.
Bucks (+29) and Pistons (+4, play IND tonight). Bucks and Pistons will play Tuesday to decide who wins Group B.

So, basically, if you want to maximize the C's chances of making the NBA cup you should root for the Magic to beat the Knicks and the Bucks to beat the Pistons on Tuesday, because they have higher point differentials to go up against the C's. Alternatively Knicks or Pistons winning i good only if they win by a BIG margin, to knock the Magic and Bucks point diff down.

The c's would ideally win by at least 15 tonight, that would guarantee them a better point diff then then the Bucks (if the bucks lost by even 1 point the c's would have a +29 to their +28).

So, to summarize:

1) Root for Magic loss tonight, the larger the difference the better to lower their point diff.
2) Root for Detroit to AT BEST win by 10 or lose, which will keep their point diff less than the C's current differential.
3) On Tuesday root for the team with the highest differential out of Knicks/Magin and Bucks/Pistons to win, because those teams will win their group.

Confusing? Yes, it is.

Atlanta might be about to put a major monkey wrench in the Celtics Cup plans.

Not true. This is a regular season game. Their cup game with Cleveland is Friday

Ah.  OK.  Thanks

Saw the score and just assumed it was a Cup game.  Kind of arbitrary scheduling to play the team twice so soon apart and have one game count for the Cup and the other not.

How bout now?

Atlanta is a weird team
Yup

Jaren Jackson Jr has played 17 games. He is averaging 22.2ppg but doing so in only 28.4mpg. That is stellar production. A career high 62% TS% as well. So volume + efficiency.

Why is he playing only 28.4mpg though? He is averaging only 3.2 fouls per game so not foul trouble.

Man, Smart is being sloppy with his passing here. A slow lackadaisical pass that was easily cut out. Another one telegraphed that was easily cut out. He has gotten to sharpen up.

Don?t really understand the significance of winning by 16 tonight.

That?s probably why he?s not starting anymore. Also went 4-11 from the field and 3-9 from 3pt. Shooting has been really bad this season. 38% from the field, 32% from 3pt.

Ok then, a one point victory tonight for the Cs!  And no more Cup talk.

I'd like to see the Wolves go small sometimes. Play one big with Gobert in the middle. Slide McDaniels up to PF. DiVicenzo & Ant on the wings. Conley or NAW or Dillingham at PG.

Randle is such a ball-stopper. He is frustating for the ball movement. Naz Reid isn't a ball stopper but he is selfish and often gets lost on defense. I'd like to see them with McDaniels there who will move the ball quicker. Get more speed on the floor. More foot speed and more speed of passing.

James Harden is 35 years old. This is 16th season. He has the Clippers playing at a 45-49 win pace without Kawhi or Paul George. What he has been doing this is amazing.

21.6ppg 8.7apg 7.2rpg 1.6spg

Harden is shouldering so much of that offensive load. Outside of him, there is little shot-creation or playmaking. Norm Powell is their next best scorer. Zubac is their 3rd leading scorer. Derrick Jones their 4th leading scorer.  Their best playmakers after Harden are Kris Dunn and K Porter Jr.

You look at those role players and they hardly ever take bad shots. The reason is Harden. He is shouldering all the responsibility. Both of creating easier attempts for them & taking it on himself to take the difficult shots when nothing is on.

I was looking at his career numbers a few weeks ago. I was surprised he had as many points as he did. I suppose I shouldn't have been because he was putting up huge numbers for several years. I always think he was more of a slow starter in his career in OKC and often fail to see him as being as old as he is.

26,000+ points
almost 8,000 assists
6,000+ rebounds

Hawks might be a team we want to avoid in the first round of the playoffs if we make it

Now I'm not at all saying CLE or BOS would lose in a series to them but if we're talking potentially "easy first round opponents", we might want it to not be ATL. They are a pesky team

Raps look half decent with Scottie Barnes in the lineup.

He sure throws up some ugly 3s though. Bricks, no iron. Others that never look like going in. Hard rim clangers.

If that guy could ever develop a better scoring arsenal away from the basket, he'd be a near unstoppable force. So good at the rim. Ball-handling. Passing. Rebounding. Defense. Man defense, team defense. He has got a lot of tools.
