Hey everyone: this is hopefully improved now. An Amazon forced upgrade hosed all of our historical database settings and it's been a bit of rediscovery of what's required to keep things stable. Basically the forum software is greedy with database connections even though many of them do very little, so you don't need a huge server... just a specific setup. If you see those "SMF error" type messages, that's what is going on.

Unfortunately there's not much budget to scale with brute force, but I'm reasonably certain the same old tricks apply and we'll be humming along before long.
Still seeing trouble this morning but, as you say, 5xx errors so it kind of is what it is from a bandwidth perspective.
Man had always assumed that he was more intelligent than dolphins because he had achieved so much--the wheel, New York, wars and so on--whilst all the dolphins had ever done was muck about in the water having a good time.

But conversely, the dolphins had always believed that they were far more intelligent than man--for precisely the same reason.

I've been having problems posting the game threads all preseason.  Last night I couldn't get in at all.  I hope the problem gets fixed soon or I may not be able to get the game threads up.  :(

Anybody still getting these timed out pages from time to time?

Like I'd make a post and then it would say "Page cannot be displayed" something along those lines.  Then I'd refresh and try again every 5 seconds and then in 2 minutes it works. But then said reply/post goes through and I'd click on another thread and it won't display.

Reading different threads and posting is still a major problem for me.  It's on and off and when on it's seems much slower than in the past.  I have no problems with other sites that I visit, just CelticsStrong.

Yep. Sometimes the page gets stuck/doesn?t load and refreshing doesn?t seem to help.

Yep, same here. Still getting the message that says something like "the page can't handle this request at this time" every so often. It last for awhile then goes away.

Yeah sometimes I just can't get into the site anymore. Logging in is fine but actually entering the site I get a similar message as others above^

I don't know about everyone else, but I'm getting 503 errors from time to time - that's usually server overload, basically a bandwidth issue.

I can't access my PMs.  I get the following error:

Quote
Query execution was interrupted, maximum statement execution time exceeded
File: /var/app/current/Sources/PersonalMessage.php
Line: 728

Note: It appears that your database may require an upgrade. Your forum's files are currently at version SMF 2.0.15, while your database is at version 2.0.2. The above error might possibly go away if you execute the latest version of upgrade.php.

Thanks for reporting. One of the fixes I put in recently was having our database refuse any query > 10 seconds long. Not ideal but keeps problematic pages from affecting the whole site. If PMs are triggering it that's good to know and I'll see if I can figure out why.

One option might be archiving PMs before a certain date.

Does this happen consistently as soon as you access your PMs, or is it more intermittent / happens while viewing older messages etc?

The only time I've noticed it was today. I saw there was a new PM, and tried to retrieve it, but got the error message..
