Oh and PS: it's not 2009 anymore, Ben Gordon is a shell of his former self.
He still got 11 points a game in 20 mins
I think he can be valuable

Roy and Who-

Thanks for your takes, but I respectfully disagree. Davis has had more playoff experience, has had individual defensive success against Howard, and has a nice mid-range game that can give us options offensively. I'm not advocating taking all of Jordan's time away - I'm advocating an even split between the two of them. Fortunately, I have the luxury of having two guys to throw at him in case one struggles. From an alternative standpoint, OKC has no one that can guard LeBron. I have multiple guys to throw at OKCs best players. I appreciate your repeated opposing arguments, but it is my team and my decision - disagree if you wish.

My team has the best player, more defensive versatility, more depth, and better floor spacing.

Oh and PS: it's not 2009 anymore, Ben Gordon is a shell of his former self.

Too bad, man.  I think that this strategy is going to cost you a Finals appearance.

Gordon still averaged 38% from three. The guy can still shoot and hit big shots. He spreads the floor for both of okc big guns.

Look at ray Allen. He can still shoot as well. Gordon isn't being asked to be the best player on thus team like with Detroit and Charlotte.

I don't see why it's unexpected for him to be able to play off Dwight and rose, shoot the ball effectively, and hit big shots in big games.

I don't think it should. If I committed to Jordan for 30-35 MPG, then that would mean he would be playing significant minutes in the 4th and I would get criticized for that because of his FT woes. Assuming Howard plays 40 MPG, I am advocating this...

1Q - Davis (6), Jordan (6)
2Q - Davis (5), Jordan (5), Ibaka (2)
3Q - Davis (6), Jordan (6)
4Q - Davis (6), Jordan (4), Ibaka (2)

Davis (23), Jordan (21), Ibaka (4)

Then couldn't the same be thought of for Chalmers, Korver, and Battier who all shot over 40% from 3-PT land?

That's 23 minutes of decreased offense, decreased defense, decreased efficiency, decreased rebounding, and decreased athleticism.  And, by starting Davis, you're going to ensure that your team starts in a hole every game.

You had a decent asset off the bench in Davis.  To make him the starter, and the primary matchup against Howard, is just a poor idea.

Roy-

I originally had the rotation pegged at 24 MPG for Jordan and 18 MPG for Davis so it isn't a big change. I don't know how you (as an assumed Celtics' fan) can criticize Davis' performance against Howard in the past or what his offensive strengths are. But that's your opinion.

Jordan needs to play near the rim to be successful and if Howard is guarding him - then Howard and his elite shot blocking is also by the rim. My thought was to start Davis and his shooting range to spread out the tough interior defense. Then when Jordan comes in - so will the shooters (Chalmers, Korver, Battier) to allow Jordan to battle down low for boards and play near the rim.

I don't think that plan sounds as crazy as you do.

I think starting Big Baby is a major mistake. Baby has scored more because he has shot more but he is a bad outside shooter and teams have learned just to let him shoot out there. Doing so is a win for any team he plays against.

I think a better strategy and more political way of handing this would have said that Jordan would start but since Big Baby has shown an ability in the past to body Howard out of his comfort zone down low and make him start his offense closer to 8 feet from the basket instead of 4-5, that Baby would go in to guard Howard once Jordan got into his inevitable foul trouble. Therefore Davis might see an uptick in his minutes. Also, when Davis would be in his only assignment would be to guard Howard and box him out of the paint. he would be a fifth offensive option only.

If this was your strategy and discussed as such, I think your response would have been very positive.

The strategy of starting Big Baby Davis to try to get Howard out of the paint means having to give him the ball and shoot, and that is not the best strategy as you have seen from several posters.

Thanks Mods for your thoughts-

A slight minutes adjustment will not change the outcome of this series despite your focus on this topic. I have defensive options (keyword: Options) against OkCs best two players and my best player has minimal opposition going against him.

Can't agree with this much. His shooting percentages may have dipped a bit last season, but he's still perfectly capable of pouring in 15 points a night in this series, if not more.
