Title: Movies so bad that they're good.
Post by: cornbreadsmart on June 25, 2010, 01:09:19 AM
I have one off the top of my head. I'm going with Catwoman. The one on one match with Benjamin Bratt's character is so stupid it's hysterical. The fat friend gives an absolutely atrocious performance.Sharon Stone is awful. I think the best part was when Halle Berry overhears the cosmetic company's secret and so she runs. They immediately call security and ok them to shoot to kill. Hilarious.

From Paris With Love defines this genre for me.

It was soooooooo bad. BUt good.

Also, I saw Catwoman, but I may watch it again just because of the above post. Sometimes, you just need to laugh.

Enter the Ninja.  It's incredibly bad.  Just watch the trailer.  Warning:  Your mind may be destroyed by this.

Rock n' Roll Nightmare.  Incredibly bad late 80s horror movie.  Needs to be seen to be believed.  Here's one of the final scenes with some pretty funny commentary at the end.

I have to disagree with Catwoman. It was just plaid bad; nothing to enjoy about it.

I'd say the Ernest movies are bad but good (I own a bunch of 'em  :P), most notably Ernest Goes To Camp.

I have a feeling this movie will be on this list in a couple of months.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW5_4gZ0Jn4

I already told my girlfriend we're going to see this.  When she asked why would I want to see that it looks so bad, I agreed with her but said it looks so bad it's going to be good!  She didn't get what I was saying though  :(

And I do not think the Earnest movies should be in there.  Those are classics, and they're targeted to kids, they're not supposed to have great plots or acting.  Earnest movies are just good  ;)

The movie Idiocracy, with Luke Wilson.

Probably the stupidest movie you'll ever see, but once it's over and you watch TV and see the complete crap thats broadcasted on TV on a regular basis, it kinda makes you smile.

All those Movies are "Citizen Kane" compared to "Plan Nine from Outer Space" starring Beta Lugosi!!! Trust me, it is so awful that it's hysterical!! From the scene where the characters enter the Spaceship and the walls vibrate to the scene (after Beta Lugosi had actually died of a Heart Attack) where an investor/dentist player his part hiding behind a cape! An amazing film that is so bad that it should be shown in every film school as to what to "NOT" do in making a film!

Zombie 2. Everyone has sen the commercial where a zombie attacks and tries to eat a bull shark (mistakenly called a great white), but that is actually from a real movie. Super over the top movie that is not actually a sequel--it was based on an Italian movie called "Zombi" and has a kinda cool plot. An "unmanned" sailboat floats into NY harbor carrying a zombie, and a group of scientists are sent to an island (of the sailboat's origin) to investigate. Do they make it off the island? Watch and find out :)

Two thought in watching some of these trailers.

1.  I somehow knew Ving Rhames was going to be in Piranha about ten seconds into the trailer.  I just knew it.

2.  Is it just me, or does the voice guy for Killer Klowns trailer sound like he should be doing Pepperidge Farm commercials?

My definition of a bad movie is, well, a bad movie.  Except that it can't be one you can just stop watching.  It has to be a movie that compels you, somehow, to watch it until the end.

The best example I know of is Van Helsing.  Kate Beckinsale stops laughing at the script long enough to run around in heels and play the foil to Wolverine.  Enough eye candy and dazzling sets that it's impossible to turn away from this trainwreck.

Spinal Tap

It's a musician thing, but if you've ever been in a band, this movie, (along with Caddyshack), is required viewing, (many times) ... if you know a musician, this movie may help explain his/her bizarre behavior, (or just confuse you more). ;)

Spinal Tap

Pee Wee's Big Adventure

Big Trouble in Little China

The Running Man

Evil Dead 2

Dawn of the Dead 1978 (dated but actually a debatable top 10 in the horror genre)

;D These are all classics in my eyes...and if any one of them where on cable right now I would watch it from where it is till the end the movie.  The movie would have to rate below a 6 on IMDB to qualify for this list if you ask me.

It would a tough one to do today.  So much of what seemed futuristic about it is too close to reality now.  "Wired" has an article this month on "the future that never happened".  Haven't read it yet, but it seems interesting.  One of the things they talk about is robots that do everything for us.

Remember when sci-fi's talked about 1999, or 2010 as some ridiculously far point in the future when things would be different.  Well, they are different, just not in the way one might have expected.

Snakes On a Plane, Waterworld, and as someone said (tp) the king of all Anaconda

Snakes on a Plane is a fail because it tried way too hard to BE a "so bad it's great" kind of movie.  I'll argue that a movie can't qualify as a "SBIG" flick unless the director and other key people went into the film with full intentions of making a good movie.  Tongue-in-cheek = disqualification.

Isn't the greatest truly bad movie of all time "Showgirls"?  Elizabeth Berkley?  The worst, least erotic sex scene of all time (what looked like her having a seizure in the pool)?  The ridiculous plot?

The ridiculous plot?

true, but Showgirls is more "so bad, it's just plain awful"

Well, it's *required* that you be drinking while watching it.

Amazon Women On The Moon; a DUMB comedy that knows it's a dumb comedy, so it kind of violates my rule of what can and cannot be considered a "SBIG" flick.  Still, it's pretty horrible and yet I'm never *not* watching it if it's on.

EDIT: Any decent Cheech & Chong movie, as well.  They're all bad, but Up In Smoke is pretty [dang] funny even though it's about as dumb as it gets.

This list would not be complete without Death Wish 3

No one has said Troll 2 yet?!?! That is certainly one of the best worst movies ever!

So bad, there is even a documentary on how it is brilliantly flawed http://bestworstmovie.com/

Pretty much any of the old Mystery Science Theater 3000 movies.  Awful movies with sarcastic commentary.  Especially look out for any Gamera movie, Pod People, Mitchell, Attack of the the Eye Creatures (not a typo, that's how they made the title) and the king of bad movies, Manos: The Hands of Fate.  Which literally means Hands: The Hands of Fate.

This is one of the most coherent scenes in the movie.

"Beerfest" is another flick that's really, really, REALLY not a good movie - but I absolutely love it.

Joe's Apartment and Westworld... for completely different reasons, one has singing cockroaches the other yul brynner as a robotic cowboy...

West World is awesome!
Simply years ahead of it's time. If remade, it would be brilliant if done right.
True. Bruce Willis would be great in Yul Brynner's character. He already has the needed haircut :)
