I was thinking what would happen if we trade for Davis or another al star and we don’t have cap space assuming 2 of the current draft picks plus time lord are gone:
We would need to fill 2-3 roster spots somehow:
One good way to do that would be with buyout candidates and players that can only get the vet min. Note I’m leaving the MLE alone as it can be used to be split on 3 non drafted rookies or on 2 vet min guys etc.. we would also be looking at Brooklyn , lakers and possibly GSW; philly and Toronto as a competition for those players services.
So here is what I came with so far:

PG - can’t think of anyone useful -(Lin is cooked) maybe Teague gets bought out..

SG - a very big need for a lot of teams including the Celtics -
Crabbe, Wellington , Bullock, JR Smith

SF - Solomon hill , bazemore , Parsons , cJ miles

PF - Ryan Anderson, Paterson , Myers Leonard

C - mahinmi , byombo, Dwight , mozgov

I left out players coming out of their rookie contracts or non extended rookies last year as I don’t know what their value is around the league.
So who can we use if we trade for davis?

I would go for Crabbe and Dwight ....

Parsons and Ryan Anderson are cooked. Dwight may be as well.

Also, I never, ever want JR Smith on the Celtics.

I think if I've taken one thing from the past few years of NBA basketball, it's this: all of your valuable role players need to be able to stretch the court and move the ball well. So anyone who shoots the 3 at a rate lower than 30% (even as a 5 man) is probably not worth considering.

Hood and Ross are free agent SG and SF. Experienced and still fairly young. I think one or both would be a great pickup for the 2nd squad.

Those two would be good but vet min contract will not be enough to sign them

I don't think he and Smart would get along very well...

Trade proposals for Davis let us keep picks 20 and 22. Maybe use them to draft more seasoned college players like Clarke if he drops and Florida State kid. Can more readily provide bench help. Or is there a seasoned 3-4 year college PG like the Purdue kid who could contribute with a 2nd round pick?

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I don't know if we can afford him, but I have always thought that if Kyrie Irving leaves, I want George Hill to be the PG of this team.

Yeah, he's on the older side, but with what he did to us in the Playoffs, there's still a good player there. Calm, cool and collected. Can shoot and defend. Wouldn't hog the ball. Veteran presence.

2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

Yeah, his stock has jumped up the last year, given his playoff performances. Plus he and Hayward have history together on the Jazz.

Re-sign Morris. Use MLE on Patrick Beverly.

Yes, that right.

I just like Hill and how he would fit with this team. Don't know if he will push us to the top, but he will add good quality.

Rubio, Collison, Beverly have appeared elsewhere in these forums. Those would be useful PGs. I have always thought (with no real evidence) that it's more important to have a PG who can defend opposing guards, has decent size, and can run the offense/distribute the ball than having a PG who's electric (like Kyrie and IT). I loved watching those guys but I think if you're deciding where to spend the money and how to build the roster, better off with a solid floor general at the helm and splurging in other positions.

Give me a star at the 2/3/4 slot and a soldier at 1.
