That's easy:

SG: Kobe
C: Bennett Salvatore / Bill Kennedy / Dan Crawford
PG: Joey Crawford / Joe DeRosa / Derrick Stafford
PF: Scott Foster / Monty McCutchen / Ken Mauer
Bench: Eddie F. Rush / Greg Willard / Mike Callahan

That's basically the team we lost to in the finals.

37-17 Game 7 free throws, 50 extra free throws in the series for the Lakers. I'm still traumatized by basketball right now. I don't know if I'll ever get over this injustice.

Which players are chosen isn't important. What is important is having blind homer fans. That way, even when the team gets outplayed, the home lenses would make them believe their team played better and was robbed by some external force. That team would never truly lose, even if it lost.

  • Rondo = Good
Paul / D. Williams
Wade / Bryant / Roy
James / Durant / Melo
Bosh / Stoudemire
Howard / D. Lee

The backup "legit American center" spot is pretty hard to fill.  All the best guys are not American - Duncan, Bogut, Yao etc.

These are my 12 AMERICAN players.

Dwill/Rondo/CP3
Dwade/Kobe
Lebron/Durant/Melo
Duncan/ Amare
Dwight/B. Lopez

I think the PG, SG, SF pretty much have to be Dwill/Rondo/CP3, Dwade/Kobe, Lebron/Durant/Melo...if trying to choose an unbiased best team. I couldn't even begin to argue that any of those 8 could be excluded.

That leaves four spots left for bigs. Dwight has to get it. The other 3 spots are very open to debate. I take Brook over Perk. I think Perk is the best post defender in the NBA, but Brook is going to be better player, maybe this year. Debated Bosh, Boozer, Josh Smith, or KG over Amare. Ultimately KG is probably too old to beat out those players, Josh really only brings his superb D, Boozer may be the most solid of the group, bosh the most complete, but I think Amare is the most explosive and playing with other stars Amare just dunks everything; he's a beast.

If allowed to play LBJ or Melo at the PF, I would probably drop Amare or Brook and pick up Brandon Roy, but the OP wanted two legit C's and PFs.

I could just go with the All-Star team like some, but lets assume there will be chemistry problems if you have Deron Williams sitting on the bench as your backup.  Not that I won't have some nasty backups on here, but not the leagues 2nd best player at that position.  A bit more realistic.

PG - Chris Paul / Ty Lawson
SG - Dwayne Wade / Jamal Crawford / Anthony Morrow
SF - LeBron James / Andre Igoudala
PF - Chris Bosh / Kevin Garnett / Anthony Randolph
C - Dwight Howard / Kendrick Perkins

The starting 5 needs no explanation really, the five best players at their positions in the NBA IMO.

Lawson learns behind Paul and improves on his play which has already shown a ton of energy and promise.  Crawford provides dependable scoring off the bench and is a deep threat to bring in if you need one.  Igoudala does everything and can play SF or SG.  KG is a great backup, anchors the 2nd team D and mentors the whole team.  Perk is a banger and great backup C.

The first lineup tries to play D and run the floor and play unselfishly.  Howard gets you in transition by blocks or boards, Bosh benefits from the physical C and is better on D than some say, and then Paul/Wade/LBJ are absolutely unstoppable in the open court.  Everyone besides Howard is a reliable scorer and Paul's passing ability probably makes Howard a reliable scorer (like it did for the far inferior Chandler) so literally anyone can hot and the ball should be passed to the open man.

So with the 2nd line up you have a great defensive frontcourt (Perk, KG, Iggy) that can hold it down and then a good all around PG with a lot of quickness and a SG who can create his own shot and fill it up in any number of ways.  They have the same focus of running the floor and passing to the open man.

Randolph is your young project guy with a ton of potential who would learn from KG and Bosh.  Morrow is a 3 specialist, currently the best in the NBA, who you can bring in if you need a shooter but also has room and potential to improve the rest of his game and would learn from the talent ahead of him in the lineup.

EDIT: I didn't really realize this was supposed to be like a current Olympic type team.  But if so, basically the "Redeem Team" (minus Kobe  ;D) plus a couple of guys on the current team like Rondo and Durant and you're all set.

PF: Bosh, Amare
SF: Lebron, Durant, Carmelo
SG: Wade, Roy
PG: CP3, Deron, Rondo

And no, I wouldn't want Kobe on my team.
I think I'd take Amar'e out simply because I don't like his game enough where he wouldn't be a 1 or 2 option.

But talentwise I think you have the best players and their respective positions.

Don't get me wrong.  In the NBA, I still think Kobe is ranked 1.b to Lebron 1.a.  But in international ball, the Americans are just too athletic.  Get this athletic team out there and run, run, run.  Give Durant time at the 3 and 4.  This team has enough shooters on this squad so that when there are half court sets, there is good spacing on the floor still.  If size becomes a problem and the game is slowed down (Spain?), then bring in Kobe and Bosh for more minutes off the bench.

The only possible change would be maybe DWill ahead of Rondo.  Not sure who I'd want running point with this lineup.  Whoever it is doesn't need to score much.

Starters - Kobe + Wade + LeBron + Durant + Bosh
Rotation - Paul + Melo + Dwight
Reserves - Deron + Gay + Iggy + Kenyon Martin + Oden

Hmm ... might move another wing into that rotation from the reserves.
