I'll take it.
I think he can play 12ish minutes a night as a small ball C, usually paired with Grant, against the other teams bench.

I was never looking for meaningful playoff minutes from the vet min "big".
I would probably still keep Vonleh, Blake hasn't been the healthiest guy himself.

Yeah, it's pretty impressive how Al looks much younger than Blake even though he's older
Yup, the first 1/4 of our season looks optimistically like this

Brogdon(16), Brown(16), White(10), Pritchard (8 )
Smart(32), White(16)

Tatum(34)
Brown(34)
Smart(32)
Horford(28)
Brogdon(26)
White(26)
GWill(26)
Griffin(12)
Pritchard(8 )
Kornet(8 )
Hauser(6)

Vonleh(?)
Layman/Valentine/Jackson/Samanic/Thomas(?)

RWIII(0)
Gallinari(0)

Davison(TW)
Kabengele(TW)

Proper NBA player for our end of bench. Love it in that regard!

Impressive that Al is still looking/moving like a younger player for sure.  What's fun is that both Blake and Al look older (one is older) than the coach.  Of course that shouldn't matter, but sometimes it does.

I think some of us are only remembering a few plays in the series against us.  He only played 25 minutes total and didn't even get into 2 of the games.  He tended to do the Wally Szczerbiak style displays of intensity every time he made a play which brings attention.

He was very mediocre during the season and actually fell out of the rotation until that Game 3. 6.4ppg at 42% in 17mins and 0.7 of 2.6 from 3 at 26% is nothing spectacular. Certainly not compared to Gallo. But we're not expecting big minutes out of him as the No3 big (No4 if you count GWill as a small ball big) and someone in the 9-10 spot and I think he will be a good influence in the locker room.

His defense leaves much to be desired though. As Ime said:

Quote
Griffin fell out of the Nets rotation last spring before making a surprise appearance in Game 3 of Brooklyn’s opening-round series against the Celtics. He provided a jolt by instantly drilling a pair of 3-pointers. Afterward, though, Celtics coach Ime Udoka made it clear they were happy to take advantage of Griffin elsewhere in a 109-103 win that was part of their first-round sweep.

“If they’re not getting stops, they’re trying to match us scoring-wise, so they put in another guy who could shoot the ball,” Udoka said at the time. “Credit him with coming in and hitting some big-time shots.

But we felt we could take advantage on the other end some, so there was a bit of a balance to that. But they were searching for something there, and they were trying to match us scoring-wise. Great job by Blake.”

But we have to be realistic with what we can get for vet min and someone in that tier. I think he will add value. But probably less than people might think. Maybe a Jabari Parker type impact. But we can't have everything
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

The Boston Celtics have reportedly cut camp invitee Denzel Valentine to make room for their signing of veteran big man Blake Griffin according to new reporting from The Athletic NBA insiders Jared Weiss and Shams Charania.

Valentine is the odd man out.  Goukii will be happy.

I was right!  (Wasn’t a hard guess as he’s the worst.)

So are we making predictions?

The media is suggesting Thomas or Valentine are most likely.  I'm predicting Jackson.

I think Valentine.

Doesn't signing Griffin mean that one of the exhibit 10 guys will need to be released:

Noah Vonleh
Denzel Valentine
Luka Šamanić
Jake Layman
Brodric Thomas
Justin Jackson

One of these will have to go, unless we get the DPE for Gallinari, right?

Valentine...

Nailed it!

We have enough guards.

Samanic is the guy who can't shoot / score or play defense? Right?

Has some handles and passing ability but not enough else.

Spurs gave up on him pretty quick for a team with no quality forwards outside of Keldon Johnson.

Griffin > Jabari.

Griffin >  Enes.

Just based on that the Celtics are already better as a team.

He cannot switch on defense or defend the perimeter. However, he ranked very high in stats as an interior defender last season. As a back up center for 10-15 minutes until TL returns he should be fine.

Interestingly, Griffin, White, and Smart all are very good at taking charges.

He did start 20 games last season (for a playoff team, I guess.)

An all right pick setter, and occasional roller.

I have no trouble with this signing and whoever is bumped from the team is not really NBA material anyway.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Can he shoot the 3-ball well is the other question  ;)

Bizarre, but I'll take it.  At least he's a vet.

I still hope we add a center.  Come on down, Derrick Favors.

Agree, don't stop adding post guys yet. We need size and our entire frontcourt is injury-prone.

He was never a great three point shooter but shot 34% for the 5-6 years prior to last year.

I think Blake plus one of Samanic or Vonleh, or both, is as much as we are going to get regarding centers.
