Celtics 2022 Draft picks.

link to last year’s thread  https://forum.celticsstrong.com/index.php?topic=104336.msg2991328#msg2991328

I know I usually kick this off at the beginning of the new year but held off due to the dismay over the team's performance

Standings as of 1/22/22

Boston Pick #13
Games Behind    Current Wins     Games Left    Last 10
Atlanta                 2.0                      20                     37               4-6
NY Knicks              0.5                     22                     36               5-5
Minnesota              —                      22                     37                6-4
Boston                ---                      23                     35                5-5
LA Clippers           —                       23                     35                4-6
Washington          +0.5                    23                    36                 5-5
LA Lakers             +0.5                    23                    36                6-4
Toronto                +1                       22                    39                 6-4
Denver                +1.5                    23                     38                5-5

—> considering the C’s inconsistency, I’ll only be tracking the teams within a couple of games of the C’s for now.  only 2 games from the 10 pick and 1.5 from the 18th.

Second Round Pick
Boston - #43

- won’t be as exciting to track as prior years with only the C’s picks to be concerned with although with this team’s inconsistency, they could slide down several slots or climb a number of slots if they either become consistently bad or consistently good.

Given how poorly our season is going, I think I'm going to be investing much more time in the draft from now on.

There are a few guys I would really like. TyTy Washington is one as our long-term point guard. Keegan Murray is a really exciting PF prospect who reminds me a lot of Thad Young. Nikola Jovic is sliding down draft boards, he would be a good pick too. Michael Foster in the 2nd round would be great too.

This could be a good draft for us if we play it right. Hopefully we don't package our 1st with Horford for some other burnt out player.
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

Trade ‘em before the deadline for a real NBA player. Unless Stevens is a departure from the Ainge school, picks are more valuable to / in the hands of others than they are in the Celtics.

We just traded our first round pick last season, which in hindsight thus far has looked like a woeful move.

Yes, but your sort of making my point. When we pick middle of the first round, we get Langford or Nesmith. Do I wish we had Sengun? Sure. Do I have faith we’d have taken him? No. Because our track record Is poor in that department.

track record for drafting is fine.  Romeo is showing he's a solid player.  Nesmith should be getting until next season to show what he can do.

Asset management, that's where the team has had real issues the past several years

for this draft, barring a miracle win in the lottery, C's don't figure to drop lower than the 9th pick and that's only if the Knicks and Atlanta pass them in the standings and no one ahead of them currently drops further.

What do you mean "we"? Because the man who made those selections is no longer in charge

The Boston Celtics. And the guy in charge now has been with the organization a long time, and presumably has had significant input over the years — especially as a former college coach (why else would he have been named GM?). So he’s guilty until proven innocent in my book.

Slim Chungus would be perfect on our team - he provides some initiation while being a savvy off-ball player who can mesh alongside talented on-ball teammates.

But we'll probably either select another Baguette Begarin or trade the pick for another burnt out player knowing Brad Pitino and Scroogebeck ::)

The Celtics will pick 14th. It's what they do.
So now you can stop wasting time with the draft tracker  ;)

Yup! And it will be a combo guard who can't shoot or an overseas draft and stash

Curious to see if Stevens draft strategy/tendency’s are much different from Ainges.
