I posted this in the moderator section, but I guess it was the wrong place, and no one saw it.  A few other people have noticed the same thing showing up on screen when they check into the Blog.  I have messed up Java in the past by downloading updates that I shouldn't have.  Anyone know what should be done with this one?

Pop up on CBlog

« on: Yesterday at 10:42:31 AM »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting yesterday, every time I go on Celtics Blog I get a pop up asking "Do you want to open or save analytics.js from a.sitemeter.com?" followed by boxes, Open, Save and Cancel.  I can not get it to go away....no matter what I do it pops back up.  Is this something I should open and save for CelticsBlog or  SBNation? It has not popped up on any other sites.  (It is getting annoying!)

Yup, I'm getting it every ten seconds when I'm on this site, and it's beyond the annoying level after two days now. This is what mine says:

"Do you want to open this file?

Name: analytics.js

Type: JScript Script File

From: a.sitemeter.com

(then the Open/Save/Cancel thing underneath)

I have checked my Java to make sure it's up-to-date, etc., and that scripting preferences are correct in my browser profiles.

Some people on this website are/were facing the same issue.

Looks like disabling your ad-ons and/or clear your cookies and cache seems to fix it temporarily.

My guess is that the sitemeter SB Nation uses to keep track of website visits is acting up.

I´m by no means a tech expert, but maybe I can offer a temporary solution, at least.

As far as I know, analytics.js is one of the many tracking devices on the internet used to analyze your browsing behaviour.

If you´re using firefox, I suggest to download the popular add-on "NoScript", which automatically blocks all such devices. If you´re having trouble with the front page´s comment section, afterwards, simply whitelist sbnation.com and celticsblog.com, or everything except analytics.js.

In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

we use sitemeter to track blog traffic but there shouldn't be any pop ups

I'll report this but in the future please report any problems like this to support@sbnation.com

I'm told that this was a problem exclusive to Internet Explorer and it should be fixed now.  If anyone continues to have the issue, please report here and also send an email to support@sbnation.com

thanks for your patience and feedback

It is still showing up on mine (IE), but I can use Chrome for the Blog, if necessary.

try clearing your cache and cookies

I also suggest using Firefox or Chrome - just a better all around internet experience (though I understand some work environments restrict browsers)

I did the cache and cookies thing...still there.  I have transferred over to  Chrome...I think I was on of the last holdouts anyway....
