Forgot Woods. I want Myles Turner in Green.
I felt excited about this proposition too, but then I had a look at Turners stats..he really is not the player I thought he was.
For some reason I always had this idea of turner being that traditional big man who is an elite shot blocker, strong rebounder, quality inside scorer - while as a bonus also being relatively mobile and having a passable outside shot. I always thought he was a 15 point, 9 rebound 2 block type guy.
Having checked his stats recently I was a little shocked to find he's only averaged about 13 points and 7 boards for his career, and a tad under 50% from the field. I was frequently dissapointed when Horford was here because of his lack of effort on the boards and the fact that he just seemed way too passive on offense more often then not. Starting to look like Turner isn't going to be any better in those regards...
Ive also heard recent reports that he's not particuarly mobile and that (asdie from his shot blocking) his defense is questionable. I'm starting to seriously wonder - is he actually an upgrade over Theis? Is he even an upgrade ofer Kanter?
At least with Kanter there is no denying he is an elite rebounder and an excellent post scorer. Aside from shot blocking, is there anything at all Turner is above average at these days? Would we be better off just letting Hayward walk, letting the cap space clear, and using the full MLE to sign a big in free agency?
Looking at the FA list there is:
* Tristan Thompson
* Willie Cauley-Stein
* Marcus Morris
* Dwight Howard (who played great for the Lakers last year - though doubt he leaves)
* Derrick Favors
* Nerlens Noel
* Aaron Baynes
* Hassan Whiteside
* Serge Ibaka
* Mark Gasol
* Ian Mahinmi
If you include guys who could maybe put in some time at stretch bigs then you also have Demare Caroll, Carmelo Anthony (who played well last year) and Danilo Gallinari.
If you look at guys who aree expiring next year (who may be potential S&T options) then you also have guys like Lemarcus Aldridge, Rudy Gay, Andre Drummond, Blake Griffin, Gorgui Dieng.
Not suggesting all of those are avalaible but just saying there seems to be an usuaually huge pool of big men out there this year who MAY be available, and I wonder if a lot of those guys I just mentioned might be better then Turner at this point.
